Celebrating our Graduates this Sunday, May 31!

Pentecost Sunday marks the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, fulfilling Christ's promise and giving birth to the Church. We celebrate the Spirit's abiding presence — moving among us in wind and flame, uniting us across every language and background into one body. This is a day of renewal, as we are reminded that the same Spirit who ignited the early disciples continues to empower and guide the Church today. Come clothed in red as we rejoice in the fire of God's love poured out for all.

Ron was born in Spencer, NC, the eleventh child of Bert and Sally Eakins — the youngest of four boys in a large Catholic family. His father worked for the Southern railroad as their Conductor, and Ron cherished the memories of riding along on those trips together.

After high school, Ron attended West Carolina Teacher's College on a football scholarship before enlisting in the USAF in July 1954. He trained in the Cadet Flight Program, and later served in the Flight Simulator Program at Chanute Air Base, Illinois. It was at Mountain Home Air Base in Idaho where he met Phyllis, and the two married in 1957. During his time at McDill Air Base, he had the distinction of instructing Colonel Paul W. Tibbets — the pilot of the Enola Gay — in the B-47 simulator.

Ron left the Air Force in 1974 and joined the Boeing Company in Seattle, where he and Phyllis raised three sons. He was a devoted father who never missed a game. In 1985, Boeing sent him to Saudi Arabia to train Royal Saudi Air Force pilots, an adventure he and Phyllis embraced together.

He retired from Boeing in 1995. In his later years, Ron and Phyllis traveled to National Parks and Monuments, and he volunteered at the Maple Valley Community Center and Tahoma National Cemetery. He loved people deeply.

We invite you to join us as we celebrate Ron's remarkable life.
