It was illegal to bury human remains inside the city of Rome so wealthier people would be buried along the Appian Way (photo is Necropolis of Portus) the main road in and out of the city. Pictured are the family mausoleums of many affluent Roman families. The other burial method was cremation and the ashes could be stored, disposed of, poured into the Tiber or placed into large buildings were niches in the walls had an urn of ashes with a name plate. Often these interment places for urns were called "burial clubs" (Columbaria) and were a cheaper way for families to pay small amounts for the upkeep of the building and the 'cinerary urns' could keep being placed in the walls.

Amazing, Facebook can't put pictures in the order in which you enter them. The top picture is the first invasion and the bottom left is the second invasion.

We have had two bee invasions at the Chapel one in 2014 and one this year. In 2014 we had 140,000 bees removed to B. B. Nelson Apiaries in RI by owner Jon Nelson. This year, a week before the wedding at the Chapel, Jon removed another 40,000 bees. (Maybe we should go into the honey business). A big thanks goes out to David Depillo of Finishing Touch Enterprise for repairing the hole in the ceiling in time for the wedding. You would never know we had to open it up.
We had two hives in the first invasion which looked like the hive on the left and the latest invasion is the hive on the right. Jon Nelson did a great job of clearing the bees before he wedding and saving all of the bees to one of his hives in Rhode Island.

Of recent note, we had two scouts, Chris McKay and Mike Healey from Troop 17 take on Eagle Scout Projects, which enhanced the Cemetery with 36 Street Signs (18 each) for which we have received many, many comments as to what a positive addition to the Cemetery they are.

In 2015 and 2017 Mansfield Women of Today used the Chapel on their Annual House Tour. These tours each attracted more than 100 people. And just a month ago we had our first wedding for George Figueredo and Megan Gonzalez. We are hoping that these occasions will spur further use of the Chapel.

We do know that the Chapel was used for funerals in the past and that the Mansfield Fire Department used the Chapel for services on Firemen’s Sunday. The Fire Department moved their Memorial Stone to the South Common, thus nothing has been done with the Chapel since then until now.
