Quick question for every married person reading this:

When was the last time you loved your spouse on purpose — not because you felt like it, but because you decided to?

Because here's what nobody tells you at the altar: feelings are the passenger in a marriage, not the driver. The moment you let emotions steer, you're one bad season away from driving off a cliff.

Jesus stepped into a world that knew all about NOUN love — passion, romance, butterflies, attraction — and introduced something the world had almost never seen:

VERB love. An action, not just an emotion. Something you DO, not just something you FEEL.

And here's the counterintuitive part: when you start doing it… you start feeling it again.

Here's something nobody tells you about parenting:

Your kids don't need you to be perfect. They need you to be present.

They don't need the biggest house, the best school district, or every extracurricular on the planet. They need you at the table. They need you in the conversation. They need you close enough to notice when something's off — and brave enough to ask about it.

The Bible tells the story of a man who had it all. Wealth. Power. Fame. Legacy. A heart that genuinely loved God.

But his kids? They raised themselves. Because Dad was always somewhere else doing something important. And by the time he noticed the damage — his son was gone. And the only words left were, "O my son… if only I had died instead of you."

He would look every one of us in the eye and say one thing:

"I missed it. Don't you dare miss it."

This Sunday is Part 4 of Family Portraits: The Missing Parent. And whether you're a brand-new parent, a single parent fighting to hold it together, a grandparent stepping in, or someone who grew up with a parent-shaped hole in your life — this message speaks to ALL of it.
