Today (Monday, May 25), the Mansfield Elks Lodge #2633 hosted a touching, timely Memorial Day program. While the parade was canceled because of the wet weather, the hearts and spirits within were undaunted. The reflections and presentations offered were profound, remining us all that Memorial Day is like no other day.

Fr. Alex was blessed to offer the invocation at today's program and offers his prayer below:

Gracious God, on this Memorial Day weekend, we pause, remember and give thanks for those who have given their lives for our country, from the earliest times to the most recent.

When the need was greatest, they stepped forward and did their duty to defend the freedoms that we enjoy and often take for granted, and to win the same for others.

O God, you yourself have taught us that no love is greater than that which gives itself for another. Those we honor gave the most precious gift they had, life itself, for loved ones and neighbors, for their country, for the world—and all of us.

As we honor their memory, we also invoke your compassion upon their family members. Comfort them, sustain them; may we be inspired to nurture them and appreciate the sacrifices they also have made. Unite us all to one another in our mutual love for you—and all of your children.

We pray for Your peace, Your mercy and Your wisdom in a world full of tumult. And we remain grateful for those who would, out of love, serve and give all in an imperfect world.

May we never forget what they have done. Help us to be worthy of their sacrifice.

May their memory be eternal.

Yesterday (Sunday, May 3), our GOYAns took the time to spruce up the nursery for our youngest parishioners. They had a great time and did a fantastic job. The only problem is we may want them to clean something new every week now.... Sorry kids!
