Tomorrow morning we’ll begin our journey through ROOTED, spending five weeks in one of the most profound letters ever written. But before we hear Paul’s words, it’s worth remembering the people who first received them: ordinary believers living in the shadow of the Temple of Artemis, learning to follow Jesus in a city filled with competing voices and loyalties. As this week’s final devotion reminds us, Ephesians isn’t just an ancient letter to study; it’s the living Word of God, preserved to strengthen His people in every generation. My prayer is that each of us comes tomorrow with open hearts, ready not simply to learn more about Paul, but to encounter the God who inspired these words.

One of the beautiful reminders we find in the book of Acts is that the Church has always been about more than a place to gather on Sundays - it is a family of believers walking through life together. The farewell between Paul and the Ephesian elders is filled with tears, embraces, prayers, and deep gratitude, revealing relationships forged through years of serving Christ side by side. As we continue preparing for our ROOTED series, may this devotion encourage us to treasure the gift of Christian community and to invest in one another with the same love and faithfulness that marked the early Church.

Some of the most meaningful relationships in our lives are formed not through a single moment, but through years of walking together. Paul’s relationship with the believers in Ephesus was exactly that. He invested in them, prayed for them, wept with them, and watched them grow in their faith. As we continue preparing for our ROOTED series, this reflection reminds us that Christianity has always been more than learning truth: it is growing together in Christ through the encouragement, accountability, and love of His people.

Today’s devotion reminds us that following Jesus has never been the easy or popular path. The first Christians in Ephesus lived in a culture that often opposed their faith, yet they remained steadfast because their deepest allegiance belonged to Christ. As we continue preparing for our ROOTED journey through Ephesians, today’s reflection challenges us to consider where our own loyalties lie and how we can faithfully live for Christ in a world that often pulls us in the opposite direction.

Today’s devotion takes us deeper into the story of the Ephesian believers by exploring what happened when the gospel truly took root in their city. The message of Jesus didn’t simply give people new religious ideas; it transformed their hearts, reordered their priorities, and compelled them to leave their old way of life behind. As you read today’s reflection, consider the areas of your own life where Christ may be calling you to deeper surrender and a more wholehearted devotion.

This Sunday, we begin a brand-new journey through Ephesians called ROOTED; but before we open Paul’s letter, we’re going to spend this week getting to know the people who first received it. They weren’t merely names on a page - they were ordinary men and women living in one of the most influential and spiritually challenging cities in the ancient world. Today’s devotion introduces us to Ephesus and reminds us that, like those first believers, we are surrounded by countless voices competing for our attention. My prayer is that, together, we’ll learn to root our lives more deeply in the voice of Christ.
