Good people of Manitowoc and beyond. Grace and peace to you.

After the tragic and continued news out of Minneapolis, MN - our faith communities are sponsoring a Prayer Vigil at 6:12pm tomorrow, Sunday, January 25th. (612 is the dominant Minneapolis area code).

We will begin at First Lutheran Church (521 N. 8th) and walk by candlelight (phone/flashlight) to Maritime Park. Once there we will hear the Christmas story from the gospel of Luke to announce God’s presence with us in our pain.

Come, pray, and join in lamenting these realities we are living through today. (Dress warmly)

In a statement released to the synod on January 12th, Bishop Anne Edison-Albright shares, "Bishops, Pastors and Deacons in the ELCA are called to speak publicly “in solidarity with the poor and oppressed, calling for justice and proclaiming God’s love for the world.” Common narratives sometimes present that call as separate or a distraction from our call to proclaim the Gospel, the Good News of God in Jesus Christ. But this is not the case. Jesus’ death on a cross and astounding resurrection is not separate from his commands to love one another, his frequent teaching on economic justice, and his care for the alien, the orphan, the widow, and the outcast. It’s all part of the Good News of how God defies human expectations–the expectations we have about who is “last” and who is “first,” and even our expectations about life and death. God’s grace is more powerful than death, and a call to oppose everything death-dealing in this life."
