What to do with a ton of tomatoes when the places you donate to aren't open? This is always the weekend that salsa and spaghetti sauce is made. With gorgeous onions, peppers and tomatoes fresh from the garden and no sugar added, the salsa and sauce are so healthy! This will be available at Lakeshore UMC on 9-6-26 until it's all sold out. Grab yourself some pickled kohlrabi while you're there, where else are you going to find that?

All Church Scavenger Hunt
Please join us for our annual All Church Scavenger Hunt on Sept. 13th marking the opening of Sunday School! We invite all congregation members to join our Sunday School students in the scavenger hunt to find special religious based items in and around our church. We are hoping to have 3 or 4 adults with each student to help them decipher the clues. Each group will need a cell phone to take a picture of the found item and then forward the pictures to the church office. At the end of the hunt, judges will review their responses and prizes will be rewarded to both adults and children. We will then meet in the Gathering Space for treats. Join the fun! “Living Water: Are You Thirsty?” Relaxation retreat at Pine Lake
Sept 10-13, 2026 is an opportunity from Wisconsin Conference's Camp/Retreat Ministry: the 3rd Annual Fall Relaxation Retreat, facilitated by Joni & Andy Shavlik and Candy Ruffolo. Enjoy a time away with as much or as little activity as you need; a full schedule is available at our welcome center. This is not our church’s annual “get-a-way” at Pine Lake so registration must be made through the conference website at https://wiumcamps.org/retreat/fall-relaxation-retreat/. Mark Your Calendars: Sept. 9 for Genesis!
We'll begin AJ Levine's new study on the book of Genesis on Wednesday, Sept. 9 @ 6:30 pm! The study is 'hot off the press' this fall. Genesis: A Beginner’s Guide to the Beginning invites readers into the foundational stories of the Old Testament with imagination. Dr. Amy-Jill Levine presents Genesis as a living text, one that continues to shape faith, identity, and our understanding of what it means to be human. These familiar stories are often heard in fragments. In this study, these stories are explored with care, curiosity, and theological insight. Books are $15 each; please stop in the office to pick up yours!

Giving through UMCOR means your money given to victims of a disaster gets through to them. Please pray and take the prayerful action of giving to help the people whose lives were forever changed by flooding, landslide and earthquake in Nepal and Tibet.

In response to the catastrophic flash flooding that occurred along the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, UMCOR is awarding a solidarity grant to support United Mission Nepal as they aid impacted communities in Dhading and Nuwakot districts with emergency food and non-food item (NFI) assistance. Alongside this grant, UMCOR is continuing to explore opportunities for further response through our partner networks and local assessments.

Please remain in prayer for these communities as the toll of this disaster continues to worsen. Authorities now report that at least 579 people have died and 1,924 people remain missing, with these numbers expected to grow as some areas remain inaccessible. Search and rescue teams are still working to reach communities cut off by the disaster, with damaged roads, landslides, and communications disruptions hindering relief operations and making it difficult to fully assess needs.

We lift up this call for prayer, presence, and continued accompaniment from the Rev. Jung Eun Grace Moon, general secretary of the Christian Conference of Asia, ecumenical partner of The United Methodist Church: “In this time of profound loss and suffering, may God’s comforting presence draw near to all those affected, embrace those who grieve, strengthen those who search and serve, shelter those who have lost their homes and kindle a light of hope amid the darkness.”

One of our neighbors stopped by the garden today. She used to live on a farm and remembers her garden and how good the fresh produce tastes, ("it's also very expensive in the store these days!"). A widow for 40 years, she just lost her youngest child to cancer. She came for some cherry tomatoes because a very nice young man gave her some last year from the LUMC garden. After harvesting 101.5 lbs of tomatoes, I had zero plans to pick the cherry tomatoes, but here she was, needing to talk, to be heard, and needing more than tomatoes. I found her the super sweet orange ones, the yellow plums, the adorable 'Tomato Berry ' shaped like a strawberry, and I took her over to the one garden bed that I can let her pick from herself. She was happy to harvest a while. Andy grabbed a big handful of beans for her too
The 101.5 lbs of tomatoes all got donated today, as did the zucchini, cukes and pole beans. We're doing what we can to feed people. It was a blessing today to do a little bit more for our neighbor. (Sometimes God just puts you where he needs you to be). She wanted to pay me, I said no, we donate everything. But she insisted, so I took the dollar for the garden fund. Tearful from our generosity, she gave me a great big hug.

Nibbles on the carrots, nibbles on the beets, big chews on the butternut squash....I wonder who could be doing that? Lil ole Bugs Bunny, bold as brass! Well, we certainly are feeding the hungry!

First Nation Interpretation of Jesus’ Ministry Bible Study To Be Offered
September 8-September 29, 2026
We believe that everyone is a child of God. As the United Methodist Church we invite everyone to come to our table and participate in communion. Have we ever really considered what that means? Jesus is present in every context, and a multicultural church would experience many different ways of looking at Jesus and His ministry. In this study we will experience an introductory look at how the First Nation People combine their cultural beliefs with Christianity and Jesus in particular, with primary emphasis on the Lakota, Choctaw, Hopi and Wisconsin Menominee. Consideration will be given to Native American history as it applies to the European introduction of Christianity to the native peoples of the American continent, Native American theologies and how they do and do not parallel the Hebrew experiences The intent of the study is to introduce you to a different way of looking at us, the Bible and God. We do all have a common kinship and we all believe in a God of love. Let’s look at Jesus from a different perspective and see what happens! Multiple sources will be used, but two of the primary ones are The Four Vision Quests of Jesus by Steven Charleston (a member of the Choctaw Nation and a Christian Bishop of the Episcopal Church), and First Nations Version: An Indigenous Translation of the New Testament. We will use a multimedia approach, and all materials needed will be provided. This class will meet on Tuesday afternoons from 1:30-2:30 for four (4) weeks in Fellowship Hall, September 8 thru September 29.
