8.23.26— This week we received new member Vivian, prayed over our young people as they head back to school, and were blessed with wonderful singing. Pastor Laura spoke about the possibility of our testimonies being rejected. What can we learn from Jesus own testimony being rejected in John 6 and how can the Parable of the Sower inform our own comittment to sharing our stories?

Today we were blessed to have the worship team from Friendship Community present to lead un in an incredibly moving time of worship. The message they communicated as they shared was how very much each and every one of us are loved by our Heavenly Father.

Thanks to all who supported worship on this sunny Sunday morning! Brother Ray Hutchison brought an engaging message about the purpose suffering has in our lives. Spoiler alert: there is always purpose for our pain! Sister Jayne Hutchison also shared a touching reflection on how God showed up in a mighty way through the prayers of his people near and far as their twins were born on this very day 41 years ago in some very unusual circumstances.

God is good and he is near to his people! Listen in!

What a fabulous day of worship in the sight of the Lord! Our Worship Music Coordinator, Jen Hinton was back with us after an epic family vacation as senior pastor Doug Hinton is on sabbatical. In his absence, Mosel Royer, pastor of The River House Church (affiliated with Dove Fellowship International) brought our message on living out our testimony well.

We invite you to be in prayer over Pastor Doug as he wraps up a silent retreat today and enters into the second half of his sabbatical. May Doug receive a fresh outpouring of Holy Spirit in this time!

What a wonderful day of worship! Thank you so much to all who participated, most especially to Appalachian Breeze who provided fabulous music for our gathering this morning.

We welcomed former pastor Galen Brumbaugh as worship leader today and Pastor Laura brought a message related to our participation with social media. Long story short, we looked back into history in order to understand our present day better.

Every year, during VBS, our young people talk about God sightings. You know, those things that happen as we move through our days, often the most ordinary of things, that remind us that we are not alone in this world. Rather, they encourage us that God sees us, he knows us, and he is as close as a breath.

This morning, the door to the church office opened unexpectedly and a young man (not affiliated with our church body) entered wondering if he could borrow our grocery cart. You see, he had a special donation to support our local food pantry partnership. After a while I wondered what in the world he was actually doing outside but sure enough, in he came with the cart pictured below and a heart for helping those struggling with food insecurity through his interest in couponing and sharing the fruits of his labor.

Our world is noisy and chaotic and often young people get a bad rap. Today, I challenge you to take a moment, take a deep breath and look up. Where do you see God moving around you? Is it through a bird flitting by in an unexpected place or perhaps a sunrise or sunset. Or maybe, as I experienced today, you'll see God move through the thoughtful offering of a young man with a heart to serve.

This morning Sarah Cummings led us in worship and shared special music with her father, Jerry. Pastor Laura spoke on a very familiar passage, the parable of the Good Samaritan:

If you've been a part of a church family for more than a few minutes, you've certainly encountered the Parable of the Good Samaritan more than once. One the surface, we see the art of being a compassionate neighbor modeled well, but let's dig a little deeper this time. What did the original hearers of this parable know that we do not? What did Jesus want those around him to hear when the legal expert challenged him? With that in mind, who is your neighbor and how does that impact your testimony?

There is a moment in the book of Daniel that is easy to miss. Before Daniel ever interprets the writing on the wall, before he speaks a word to Belshazzar, his reputation has already preceded him. The queen says, "There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods." Nobody had to convince her. Nobody had to argue. She had simply watched Daniel long enough to know that something about him was different.

But Daniel is not alone. Centuries earlier, a young man named Joseph — sold into slavery by his own brothers, working in a foreign household with no credentials and no advocate — so distinguished himself that his master noticed something that didn't fit any natural explanation. "The Lord was with Joseph," Genesis tells us, "and his master saw it." A pagan man saw the presence of God in the quality, integrity, and character of his servant's work.

The New Testament confirms what the Old Testament illustrates. Jesus said it plainly: "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). Peter echoed it: "Live such good lives among the pagans that… they may see your good deeds and glorify God" (1 Peter 2:12). Paul captured it in a single sweeping command: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord" (Colossians 3:23). And he reminded the Thessalonians that a faithful daily life wins the respect of those watching from the outside (1 Thessalonians 4:11–12).

That is the sermon in a sentence: the most compelling witness begins before you speak.

Drawing on Joseph, Daniel, Priscilla and Aquila (Acts 18:1–4), and the full sweep of biblical teaching on work, we ask a single question: What kind of life makes the people around you curious?
