Today’s Scripture Reading
Genesis 1

“This” is How God Made You!

27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

A man is never to lose his masculinity. A woman is never to give up her femininity.

A female might object, “Well, I’m not inferior to a man.” That’s right! You’re not inferior to a man. As a matter of fact, you’re superior to a man . . . at being a woman. And a man is superior to a woman at being a man.

God made them in the beginning male and female. We honor Him by honoring the way He made us.

Psalm 34

Let Others See Who You Truly Are

11 Come, you children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Who is the man who desires life,
And loves many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil,
And your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil and do good;
Seek peace and pursue it.

Because you are created in the image of God, He wants your personality to reflect His. He doesn’t expect you to do it on your own, though.

In today’s verse, as in the rest of Scripture, He has provided instructions on how to be the person He created you to be:
1. Keep your tongue from evil. Say only those things that are true, uplifting, and kind.
2. Don’t dwell on things that make you angry. Let them go.
3. Think about God’s promises. Allow them to fill your heart and mind with peace.
4. Remember you are a child of God.
5. Start each day by keeping a Scripture Verse forefront in your mind.
6. Make a conscious effort to be gentle, loving, and empathetic to those with whom you come in contact.
7. Be the salt and light in this world that Jesus calls us to be.
In doing these things, people will see you as the beautiful child of God you truly are!

John 16

Experiencing Jesus

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

It is better that Jesus went back to Heaven and sent the Holy Spirit. Most of us think, “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could just have lived back in the time when Jesus was here in the flesh, walking the shores of Galilee?” But the truth is, we have the advantage over those who walked bodily with Jesus. They experienced Jesus on the outside; we have His presence on the inside!

“By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.” (1 John 4:13)

Count Your Blessings

1 We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks!
For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.

Thankfulness fills you with positive energy. When a person is thankful, their smile comes from the inside out. And when you realize that everything good you have is because of Jesus, your life becomes more meaningful, and you become closer and more intimate with Him. That is why it is important to take some time each day to say Thank You to the giver of all blessings: Jesus.

Think about it:

• God sent His Son Jesus to earth, where He became a man so He could die on the cross to give you eternal life (1 John 4:9-10).

• No matter what you have done, Jesus’ sacrifice is more than strong enough to wash your sinful record clean (John 3:16).

• But He didn’t stop there. He prays for you and is caring for you (Romans 8:34).

What gifts of God are you especially thankful for? What things around you, in nature, in your life, and in your relationships cause You to praise Him? What “wondrous works” has He done in your life?

Take some time to count your blessings — and to give thanks for them — today!

Colossians 3

How to Forgive

13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

Have you ever had somebody come to you and say, “I want to apologize for… I’m sorry.” Our first inclination is to say, “Don’t worry about it. That’s okay.” But, that’s not forgiveness.

If you’ve wronged somebody, don’t apologize, instead say, “Would you forgive me? I was wrong.” And if somebody’s wronged you, don’t just say, “Oh, forget it. Never mind.” Say, “I forgive you.” Do it fully.

God gives us the model of forgiveness by saying, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 5:20b) In addition, when God forgives our sins against Him, He forgets our sins against Him, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” (Heb. 10:17)

God’s primary way of forgiving is to set us free from our sins and He follows that up by “remembering our sins no more.” By “remembering no more” means that He no longer acts on the memory of our sins. He wants us to do the same. That is true forgiveness.

Proverbs 2

Discretion and Understanding

11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.

Have you noticed that you’ve made your greatest mistakes when you made decisions, commitments, and plans in haste — when you didn't allow unrushed time to consider what you should decide, do, or say?

While discretion and understanding are partially acquired through learning and experience, they are also a gift from God. This gift doesn't come on demand, especially when we rush God for His answers to us. Discretion comes from patiently seeking, trusting, and waiting on the Lord's guidance through the Holy Spirit and from a heart saturated in longing to live for Him.

Do you have a decision to make? Make the Lord your first priority, ask Him to guide you, and be all the more conscious of the effects to His Holy Name.
