Today’s Scripture Reading
Psalm 34

When God Says, “No”

10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

We often think we know what is best for ourselves, only to find that its supposed goodness evades us like sand sifting through our fingers. With earnest effort, we strive for the object that promises to satisfy our yearnings. Yet, like the proverbial dog chasing its tail, its benefit is nothing more than wishful thinking.

It’s like a tantalizing dessert to which better sense says “No,” though the lips say “Yes!” Only later do we realize that our body sides with the verdict our good sense had pronounced!

From relationships to possessions to jobs, so often we discovered too late that the thing we wanted was not what it seemed. God withholding it was definitely a blessing in disguise.

God hears every prayer we pray. He knows what we long for. He answers every prayer — though not always in the way we want. Sometimes He says “yes.” Sometimes “no.” And sometimes He just tells us to “wait a while” until we are better equipped to deal with the responsibilities that accompany that blessing.

Continue to seek Him. Thank Him for His answers - even the “No’s” - because He promises we will never lack in His blessings.

Today’s Scripture Reading
Psalm 91

Ten Thousand Angels

9 Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
10 No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
11 For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.

Donna was known for her famous blessing. “Ten thousand angels,” she’d call as she sent friends home. “Ten thousand angels,” she’d wave to neighbors and family when they left her. Her words built up others’ faith. She gave those around her courage with her simple reminder, “You are in God’s hands.”

Our Creator’s hands are big. They are big enough to hold all our problems. They formed our universe, after all, our world, our bodies, every cell, every atom.

If, somehow, that doesn’t make you feel secure enough, then know that God has invisible armies who do His bidding as well. A multitude announced the birth of Jesus. A heavenly army defended Elisha from enemy soldiers. An angel shut the mouth of lions for Daniel.

If you are walking with Jesus, you are walking down the road that God has paved. No obstacle, no enemy, no sickness, no terror can pass God or His angel army without heavenly permission. So do what’s right and take courage. God - and ten thousand of His angels - walks with you.

Today’s Scripture Reading
2 Timothy 4

Your “Life List”

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

There is a certain satisfaction to checking off a list. “These are the things I’ve accomplished,” the list proclaims. You feel satisfied. You spent your time well. You had goals and you met them.

The apostle Paul had a life list. In today’s verse, near the end of his life, he reviews his accomplishments.

Notice he doesn’t list the number of churches he started - though he started many. He doesn’t review the length of miles he spread the gospel - and he traveled far. He doesn’t even list the sacrifices of family, of time, of pleasure that he made. Nor does he name the important people he worked alongside.

Instead, he lists the accomplishments of his spirit: He persevered. Before authorities, in prison, on storm-struck boats, he didn’t lose faith. He kept believing. He kept trusting. That’s it. That’s his bucket list, filled.

All the great accomplishments of Paul’s life, God wrought out of his persevering spirit. Paul recognized that none of the things he did were really to his credit.

Paul asked. God answered. Paul trusted. God came through. Paul was willing. God directed his way.

God will do the same for us - when we ask Him.

Psalm 121

Fears We Don’t Talk About
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—
He will watch over your life;

Let’s be honest. Many of us carry silent fears we don’t talk about. You might look calm to everyone else, but inside you’re bracing for the next hit. You're constantly scanning your life like a watchtower, looking for what might go wrong next. You’re not trying to live in fear, but life has taught you to stay ready.

Psalm 121 is written exactly for that tension. It isn’t just poetic comfort. It’s a concrete promise. And if you let it in, it can rewire the way you walk through this world.

This verse isn’t a vague statement about good vibes. The language here is strong, deliberate, and deeply personal:

“The Lord will keep you from all harm.”
The word keep in the original Hebrew is “shamar” — to guard, preserve, and protect like a watchman on a wall. This isn’t passive. It’s active, intentional, and constant.

“He will watch over your life.”
Not just your spiritual life. Your whole life. Your sleep, your decisions, your body, your path, your people. Every part of it. The phrase “your life” means your breath, your being, your essence. Not one piece of you escapes His care.

You’re not alone when the diagnosis comes back unclear.
You’re not forgotten when your bank account looks grim.
You’re not unprotected when anxiety keeps you up at night.
God isn’t just watching over you in theory. He’s watching over everything that touches your life. And that includes the stuff that seems out of control.

Nothing can touch your life without first passing through God’s permission.
Even the harm that reaches you cannot destroy the core of what God is preserving. You’re being watched over in the ways that matter most — even when it doesn’t feel like it.

So when it feels like the bottom may drop out, know that the Lord is with you and He is directing the outcomes, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Rom. 8:28)

Your mind-set is to stand firm in His purpose!

2 Corinthians 2

A Matter of Life or Death
15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

- Evangelist, Bill Fay writes:
One day in a frequent flyer room, I looked over and saw John Denver. It was pretty obvious with his distinct features and signature guitar that it was him. I went over and said, "John!" He jumped up, stuck out his hand and said, "I haven’t seen you in a while."

I said, "No sir, we’ve never met. But I am a man who’s prayed for you for over five years, and I have a message for you from your dead father, Dutch." You see, years earlier, in the height of my pagan lifestyle, John Denver’s father was the co-pilot on the Learjet that used to fly me around the country to do my illegal mob business.

His father -- whose hand I held when he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ -- made me promise that one day I would share with his son. I said, "Dutch, if God provides the moment, the privilege is mine." Now it looked like the moment was going to come.

I met with John in a private room in the Denver airport for the better part of two hours. I took him line by line through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There wasn’t a single verse of Scripture he did not understand -- nor was there a single verse of Scripture that he would accept. Finally, I said, "John, when did you make up your mind Jesus Christ would never become your Lord and your Savior?"

He could remember the date, the time and the place. A godly Sunday School teacher, like some of you, said to him Jesus Christ was The Way, The Truth and The Life.

I left with a saddened heart, tears in my eyes. I asked God, "Why did You go to all this trouble if John Denver was not going to accept You?" And a verse of Scripture came into my heart that took evangelism to another level for me. I hope it will for you. It comes out of 2 Corinthians 2:16, and it says, "To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life." The word "death" in Scripture means eternal separation from God.

Wherever you go, to whomever you speak, wherever you stand, you represent life and you represent death -- for you and them it will be either an opportunity won, or an opportunity lost.

Hebrews 13

Discontentment is a State of Mind

5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

A salesman launched into his pitch about the superiority of the glass cleaner he was selling.

“But,” my friend responded, “I already have some cleaner that does just fine.”

Ignoring her comment, the man went on to describe the qualities of his product and urged us to buy it, try it, and see for ourselves. It was a little thing, but I was impressed that my friend, who had grown up in poverty and could now afford this minor item, resisted the “upgrade” and continued to look for what she had come for. She refused to be discontent with what she had.

Discontentment is an interesting state of mind. Perhaps we experience discontent because we’re tired of not having what we want; or of looking poorer, less educated, less up-to-date than our neighbors; or perhaps we think “if only I had such-and-such, I would be able to do this or that.”

But if God says He’ll never leave or forsake us, then that means He’s involved with our life. We can be content and free of jealousy because we are under the care and direction of the richest and most powerful Being in the universe.

God Himself has already supplied everything we could ever need!

Today’s Scripture Reading
Proverbs 14

Don’t Panic!
26 In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence,
And His children will have a place of refuge.

“Don’t panic,” I thought.

Driving home from having dinner with my friend, it was an exceptionally dark night. I hit a pothole that immediately flattened my tire. With four miles of farmland ahead on a two-lane highway, there was nowhere to turn off. Nor did I want to be stuck in such a desolate area.

I’ve always been taught that when you have a flat tire, you could go maybe a maximum of ½ mile before ruining your wheel, or further and you stand the chance of damaging the car’s alignment, brakes...

What to do? I immediately went to the Lord. I said a prayer for His help. I know without a doubt that He is with me! “Move on” He often says to me. I moved on.

Thanking God, I made it to the lit-up gas station. My husband met me there and changed my tire.

Least of all, purchasing a new wheel was evident …But not so as child of the Most High! Beyond belief, my rim was not dented nor destroyed. My wheel had no damage. Alignment, brakes… all good. Just a tire replacement. Praise God!

This verse reminds us that even when things look hopeless, God is still in control. No matter how scarry things get, He will be a refuge for His children. So the next time you find yourself in a bad situation, remember this verse and take comfort that our Lord is ever able!
