Black lives matter.

We could just stop there, because to say more risks minimizing the clarity and simplicity of the statement. Hopefully what we say here adds clarity without hiding behind circumstances.

At Manhattan Mennonite Church, we commit to the Black Lives Matter movement. We recognize the racism that white Christians, including Mennonites, have perpetuated and benefited from for hundreds of years. That was wrong, and today, the imperative to take a different path sits square in front of our feet. Our uncertainty about how to foster justice and give voice to people of color will not stop us from trying: we will learn, and try again. We commit to learning more about racism as a congregation. Black lives matter.
