This week we are joined by Rev. Mandy Todd from Interfaith Action for an exploration of a political ideology that threatens religious freedom and nullifies principles of pluralism. Exploring the difference between bringing faith and values into politics vs. pushing for a state established religion.

Rob will be highlighting E.O. Wilson’s classic book Biophilia, whose central thesis is that Humans have an innate, biologically rooted affinity for life and life-like processes. This innate affinity for other living organisms fills us with joy and gives our lives meaning. Rob will walk us through Wilson’s argument that we are “biophilic”, as well as how this book has shaped design and conservation in the ensuing years, and how we can “rekindle” our own biophilia through the insects we encounter in Kansas.

Hope is an active practice. Even in these dark times, joy is imperative! Claiming joy is a political act of resistance to fear, despair, and control. And it’s a personal act of agency and liberation. Pastor Isabel will lead us in finding nuggets of joy in the present moment and casting them forward into the visionary future we build together through intention.

Pastor Isabel leads us in reflection about the Return of the Sacred Red Rock exhibit at the Spencer Museum and Council Grove’s Voices of the Wind People production. We close out our month of nurturing gratitude by exploring how to authentically and respectfully observe Indigenous Heritage month.
