Dearest Friends and Members of CRC Manhasset,
If you have seen any news today, you are well aware of the decision of our president, in cooperation with the Netanyahu government of Israel, to bomb Iran.
In the past hours, violence has spread throughout the region bringing death and destruction to both military "targets" and civilians.
I don't think I'm exaggerating to say that none of us can begin to imagine what the future holds other than to know, with confidence, that we are dangling over a cliff of immense potential global suffering.
I will not waste your time with worn out religious platitudes or clichés, but I would like to invite you to be diligent in prayer (including for, but obviously not limited to, RCA missionaries and partners in the region), outspoken in our Christian mandate to support the suffering, weak, and mourning, and actively engaged in your various circles of influence such that the life, light, wholeness, reconciliation, and beauty of God's Kingdom would overcome the threatening death, darkness, destruction, and division - that divine goodness would prevail "on earth as it is on heaven."
As I have said in the past, I encourage you to be attentive to both the quantity and the quality of the media you consume, to be honest about your personal well-being, and to pay particular attention to those in your life for whom these threats are experienced more closely.
Pastor Tim
