The miracles aren't simply shows of power; they don't only serve the purpose of meeting a need.

While Jesus still does both of these things when he performs a miracle, he also reveals himself to those willing to look closely. Every miraculous event points to our savior, teaches about his character, and reveals our need for him.

At the miracle at the wedding at Cana, the disciples didn’t just witness a miracle, they beheld the glory of the one who performed it, and they believed.

Jesus doesn't exist far away from ordinary people and ordinary life.

He entered into a wedding celebration, he showed his care for people even in an ordinary context.

The kind of community Jesus creates should reflect that same heart: present, compassionate, honest, and filled with grace.

John 2 reminds us that Godly community is built in the big moments, in the small moments, and in every moment in between. Jesus changes every part of life.

If Jesus is only a man, then the miracles of Jesus will always feel impossible.
But if Jesus is truly the eternal Son of God and the creator and sustainer of all things, then turning water into wine is not really a stretch.
John’s Gospel starts with who Jesus is before showing us what Jesus does. The miracles make sense once you understand the person performing them.

Jesus’ first miracle was not raising the dead or calming a storm. It was turning water into wine at a wedding. Why?

Miracles in the Gospel of John are not just displays of power. They are signs pointing us to who Jesus is. The one who created the world has stepped into it to restore what is broken, provide what we lack, and invite us into something better.

The gospel is not just that Jesus can help solve a problem in your life. It’s that the Son of God has come near so that you can know him.

Forgiveness matters deeply. We all need it. But Christianity is more than receiving benefits from Jesus while keeping him at a distance.

The heart of the gospel is reconciliation with God himself. It's learning to love him, trust him, and build your life around him.

One of the strange things about raising children is watching them become who they are becoming long before they fully see it themselves.

You see glimpses of maturity before they feel mature and encourage growth before it is complete.

In John 1, Jesus gives Simon the name “Peter” before Peter becomes the steady, courageous Apostle we later see in Scripture.

But Jesus renaming Peter is fundamentally different than how we raise our children. 𝗪𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁.

He doesn't just identify what someone already is. He changes people into who he calls them to be.

That is part of the hope of following Jesus.

Your growth as a Christian might often feel uneven and imperfect. But, our confidence is not in our ability to change ourselves. It is in the Savior who is committed to finishing what he starts in his people whom he has called children of God and co-heirs with Christ.

When Jesus called Simon “Peter,” he was not just predicting the future. He was beginning the work of making him into the man he would become.

That means your hope is not in your ability to change yourself but in the Savior who changes people. When Jesus calls you his, you do not have to wonder whether he will leave you, fail you, or give up on you.

Your confidence is not in yourself.
It is in the unchanging Savior who holds you.

That is the question Jesus asks in John 1.

Not just, “What do you believe?”
Not just, “What do you need?”
But, “What are you seeking?”

This past Sunday we looked at Jesus’ invitation to “come and see”, to know him, trust him, and discover why he is worth following.

Humility in Christianity is not pretending your life does not matter. It is learning that Jesus is greater than you and discovering that this is actually good news.

So many of us spend so much time and energy trying to prove ourselves.
John the Baptist shows us something different in John 1. Seeing Jesus as greater than us is not crushing news; it's a weight off.

We do not have to carry the weight of being our own savior. Jesus already did that for you.

Reach out to Jesus if you're tired of proving yourself. Feel free to reach out here if you want to know how to do that.

Being a witness for Jesus does not mean pretending you have every answer.
It means honestly pointing to who Jesus is, what he has done, and what you have seen of his grace.

One of the things we love about walking through God's Word together and serving together is that week after week, we keep seeing more clearly who Jesus is, and how he affects 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵 of life.
