Memorial of Saint Dominic
We bishops are deeply saddened by the unexpected death of Monsignor Andrew Barreras, OPr in Arizona on August 5th, 2026. Our leadership was notified of this the evening of August 7th. His passing is a significant loss for his family, friends, and local faith community as well as for our larger church.
Msgr. Andrew was a native of Superior, Arizona. He was ordained a priest of the Reformed Catholic Church by our now-Presiding Bishop Christopher Carpenter on November 25th, 2011 in Tempe, Arizona. Within a few years, the honorary title of Monsignor was bestowed on him by the then-Presiding Bishop.
He pastored a local parish in Arizona, St Martin de Porres, and became a member of the Order of Preachers, Reformed (who are more popularly known as the Dominicans). He ultimately led the Order of Preachers, Reformed as Provincial. His recent loss strikes us as especially profound since today marks the feast day of St. Dominic, who founded the Order.
Msgr. Andrew served on the Board of Directors of the Reformed Catholic Church for several years and was very involved in community outreach and political advocacy, especially regarding his local immigrant and LGBTQ+ populations.
We are deeply grateful for Msgr. Andrew’s service to the Reformed Catholic Church and his local community these past 15+ years. We ask that our clergy and faithful remember him, his longtime partner Danny, and his family in your prayers and Masses. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Well done, good and faithful servant. May Msgr. Andrew rest in peace.
