I still will need to get fruits and veggies at the end of the week for Sunday. Lots of prep to do. Lughnasadh (Lunasa) is the month of August on the Irish calendar. Oats and barley and wheat are harvested, berries (especially bush rather than ground berries-- bilberrys, brambleberries, blueberries, etc) are coming in to eat fresh and put into scones and pies), apples are ripening, and it's depending on climate, pigs may be ready for slughter, or not quite. As a holiday, it seems to have been a season, not just a day, when Lugh mourned his foster-mother, the grain is harvested, and the funeral games are held. We pray for good weather, rather than Lugh in his grief sending us thunder and hail and driving rain, so we may safely harvest what we have sown. Gatherings at Teltown were occasions for signing of contracts (especially marriage contracts). But it is not Lugh's birthday or his wedding. It's a funeral assembly. The earth sorrows also in giving forth.
