We thought it was a simple hike, but soon we were miles from anywhere, the weather turning harsh. Sneakers and light jackets weren't enough. What became a multi-hour ordeal, my dad navigated with unwavering resolve, reassuring us home was 'just over that hill.' His presence, his refusal to show fear, kept us going when all I wanted was to quit.
