Prince of Peace United Methodist Church

Prince of Peace United Methodist Church A faith community seeking, serving, and sharing Christ. But we all share certain core values that make our community of Christians a special group of people.

To put into general terms, we join together for three Christ-centered purposes: We seek Him; We serve Him; and We share Him.

This little free food pantry has been a blessing to many in our community, and it has been given an upgrade!

For those that don’t know, we have an outdoor food pantry on the left side as you pull into the driveway of our church.

You don’t have to attend our church or be affiliated with any church (although all are always welcome here)! You can just give or take what you need from it anonymously.

When you clean out your pantries, even your freezers (for our indoor pantry), please consider us. It can be a challenge trying to keep stocked up - the need in our community is ongoing.

It doesn’t only have to be food either (books, hygiene items, household items like toilet paper etc. are also welcome). When you’re at the grocery store, maybe you just pick up one extra item if you’re able and bring it by.

You can drop off items to the pantry anytime (6299 Token Forest Dr 20112). Or, if you have items to donate but are unable to get them to us, please send us a message and we will see if we can coordinate having someone come pick them up.

And if you ever find yourself in need, please check it regularly to see if there’s anything you can use. Items move FAST.

“In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places… I go to prepare a place for you.” — John 14:2

Jesus offered these words to his disciples during a moment of uncertainty. He reminded them (and us, as well) of God's promise of belonging. We are always held in God's grace.

There is room for everyone.

💭 How does it shape your faith to trust that God has prepared a place for you?

A call to reflect from the VAUMC. For the full statement from our UMC Social Principles: https://www.umc.org/en/content/social-principles-the-political-community

A moment, please, to reflect on the value of each life placed on this Earth.

Take a moment, please, to reflect on those living in areas of war and the realities for them, their families, and their way of life.

As Christians, as United Methodists, as citizens of a nation not located in war, might we recognize this moment in history and what it means to support war and the countless lives it affects.

In moments like this, people often turn to their faith for guidance in understanding what their Church has to say about social issues. United Methodists do so through what are called our Social Principles which are written and adopted by United Methodists from around the world.

Regarding war, our Social Principles state:

"The church deplores war and all other forms of violent conflict and urges the peaceful settlement of all disputes. We yearn for the day when there will be no more war and people will live together in peace and justice. We reject the use of war as an instrument of foreign policy and insist that every peaceful and diplomatic means of resolution be exhausted before the start of armed conflicts. Similarly, we oppose the increasing reliance on preemptive strikes unless they can be clearly demonstrated to be proportionate in response, delimited in human casualties, and undertaken in response to clear and immediate threats to human lives. We grieve that in a world where so many live in poverty, governments continue to dedicate enormous resources to preparing for and conducting wars. We are especially distressed by the proliferation of nuclear weapons and call not only for an end to their production, but for their complete elimination." UMC Social Principles 2020/2024
