Students!
As we prepare to end your semester with finals week full of exams, final presentations, and countless office hours, we ought to remember the story of David and Goliath. (1 Samuel 17)
The land was FULL of anxiety as the Israelites knew that they had to eventually face the Philistines, namely Goliath who was a "champion from Gath," as the bible notes in verse 4. His frame alone was enough to intimidate people. People had gone ahead of them to take on Goliath, and they failed. Plot twist: this little guy, David (the underdog if you will) emerged, and offered to beat Goliath, verse 32. Now here's what we have to understand about David. He had confidence. David was confident because while no one was paying attention to him, he was in a season of preparation, "taking care of my [his] father's sheep and goats," verse 34. Because David had been in preparation, he was confident that, regardless of Goliath's frame, he was CAPABLE of conquering him.
Friends we are like David this week. After you've spent hours of time studying, reviewing material, meeting with study groups, and praying of course, you were preparing for the day that you'd be faced with this Goliath. Whether Goliath is an exam you have coming up, or combating the freshman funk, sophomore skepticism, junior junk, or SENIORITIS, KNOW that you are CAPABLE.
The story goes on to tell us that David beat Goliath with only, "a sling and a stone, for he had no sword," verse 50. So this week, I encourage you to take what you have to your testing sites, take your ability, your preparation, YOUR FAITH, and let's conquer some Goliaths.
Pray with me:
Father, thank you for being God and God all by yourself. Lord I pray that as students all over prepare to demonstrate their knowledge of material learned over the semester, that you would grant them with retentive memory and a spirit of excellence. God we COME AGAINST every spirit of anxiety and fear because your Word says that you, "hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." So now Lord, I pray that the same way you allowed David to have victory over Goliath, you will give us victory over our finals!
In Jesus name,
Amen :)
Be well folks
