We all know the importance of doing what we can for good physical health - eating nutritious food, getting enough sleep, exercising, and minimizing our stress levels, just to name a few. While prioritizing our physical body and well-being is important, the Apostle Paul reminds us that there is actually another body we must also care for that we are a part of - the body of Christ, His renewed community, also known as the church. As followers of Jesus and members of this spiritual family and body, we all have the responsibility to do what we can to contribute and make sure that the body remains vibrant and healthy. If each of us has an important role to play in the local body of Christ then we want to make sure that we ourselves are emotionally and spiritually healthy. Our individual emotional and spiritual health contributes to the health of the greater church body. When we do this hard work towards health, with God and each other, not only do we become healthy people, but the church now brings Jesus’ love, hope, restoration, and salvation to the world around them. Instead of causing more damage, confusion, and destruction that already exists in the culture, the church brings answers, repair, and healing.

It can be easy to say that we believe God loves us but then we encounter difficult situations or we engage in behaviors that are not good for us and suddenly we question: does God really love us? Maybe it is when you are going through a difficult time or when you were diagnosed with an illness. Maybe there seems to be no hope for your marriage or relationship or maybe you have been praying for a long time and your prayers have gone unanswered. Perhaps you have made a mistake or have sinned and think you need to fix yourself before coming to God. Even people who do not consider themselves to be followers of Jesus, question God’s love, goodness, and presence when they experience suffering or when they see suffering in the world. But if it is so common for us to experience moments in our lives that make us wonder if God truly loves us, then how can we hold onto and stand secure in God’s promises that He loves us and that by being reconciled to Him, we have direct access to Him? How can we boldly and confidently come before God as we embrace and live into the deep love He has for us?

From news headlines to daily interactions at school or work, our society appears increasingly defined by conflict and division. They call us the United States of America, but yet we are more divided than ever and that division unfortunately continues to widen. This friction spans the entire political and social spectrum from disagreements over who is in office and the economy to debates on foreign policy, immigration, and healthcare. We are split by ideologies, worldviews, religions, and even sports teams. It seems that for every topic, there is an opposing side ready to argue why they are right and why you are wrong.
But perhaps the most disheartening thing is that not only is our nation divided, but so are many of our churches. When navigating political and cultural differences, those who identify as Christians can sometimes mirror the hostility of the surrounding culture, responding with the same bitterness and slander as anyone else. Many profess faith in Jesus, yet His teachings often fail to influence their worldview or how they treat those with whom they disagree with. But if the world has no solutions for all of this turmoil and only Jesus does, then how can we partner with Him to bring His peace, love, and unity to those around us?

Our culture is deeply polarized, dividing into extreme camps where "us vs. them" mentalities lead to demonizing those with different values or identities. This "with me or against me" posture fuels division and social cancellation. When we judge others by our own standards of what we consider to be right and wrong, we often succumb to pride, categorizing people as allies or enemies based on our own limited perspectives. Based on our own standards, we judge and determine if someone is worthy or not. However, God says that when measured against His standards of what is good and right, we all fall short and are deserving of His judgement. So if we have all sinned and rebelled against God, then how can we receive His grace as we live in new ways with God and even with those who are different and think different from us?

Do you pray for others? Do you pray that those around you can encounter God, be strengthened by Him, follow Him? How often do you pray for your spouse, kids, co-workers, neighbors, church family, city? Do you pray that God will reveal Himself to them, enabling them to discover their meaning and identity solely in Him? Do you pray that they may seek and prioritize God, gaining an expanded awareness of His extraordinary and unsurpassing power manifested on their behalf? Do you pray that God will use your life to point them to Him? See, many times we want change to happen, in our lives, in the lives of others, in our communities, and in the world. We can try to convince, scheme, manipulate, or force someone to change but yet they, nor we, change. But perhaps we need to consider that God, the Creator of the universe, Who created the human heart, is really the only One who can change hearts. The Apostle Paul knew this - he knew that if someone was going to come to know Jesus, it would take prayer. But He also knew that if someone was going to grow and mature in their faith as they learned to walk with and prioritize Jesus in their life, then that would also take prayer.
