"Amazing Grace" was published in 1779 by John Newton, a slave trader turned abolitionist and clergyman. While at sea he almost perished when his ship encountered a storm. He attributed his survival to God who spared his life. The song, according to his biographer is performed 10 million times annually. Performing artists are from City Hope Malden that shares the same building in worship with FBC Malden.
