President Dallin H. Oaks was announced today as the 18th President and Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The announcement was made during a live broadcast from Salt Lake City, Utah. President Oaks was sustained and set apart today, October 14, 2025.

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the prophet is chosen through a divinely inspired process. When the prophet passes away, the First Presidency is dissolved, and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, led by the longest-serving Apostle, assumes leadership, confirming the new Prophet through revelation and priesthood authority.

President Oaks, 93, succeeds President Russell M. Nelson, who passed away September 27, 2025.

The new leader of a global faith of more than 17 million members has called President Henry B. Eyring, 92, and President D. Todd Christofferson, 80 to serve with him as first and second counselors in the First Presidency, the Church’s highest governing body.

President Oaks also announced that President Jeffrey R. Holland, 84, will be the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/president-oaks-new-first-presidency

Ever heard of the “covenant path”?

You might have heard leaders talk about the “covenant path” before. Here’s what that means!

A “covenant” is a sacred promise between us and God. He sets the terms of the agreement and blesses us if we are faithful.
A “path” can mean a physical walkway, but that’s not what we’re talking about here. This path refers to the collection of ordinances that mark the way for us to return to Heavenly Father. These sacred acts are performed by the authority of the priesthood and are scattered throughout our lifetime.
So what does “covenant path” mean? It means that our promises, paired with priesthood power, bring us back to Heavenly Father. The path includes:

Being baptized.
Receiving the Holy Ghost.
Going through the temple.
Being sealed in marriage.
It’s important to remember that it’s a path, not a race! Not everyone will reach these sacred milestones at the same time. Some people may reach certain milestones after this life.

As you continue your life’s journey today, remember that Jesus Christ is walking with you. He loves you! We do not walk this path alone.

Day 2: “He healed them” (Matthew 21:14)
In the last week of His earthly life, the Lord took the time to clear the temple of money changers, restoring it to its most sacred and holy purpose as a “house of prayer” (Matthew 21:13)—a place where men and women may commune with God. After this cleansing, when the temple was again a sacred, holy space, Jesus Christ healed the lame and the blind in the temple.

And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.

Matthew 21:14

We learn two important lessons from this day of Holy Week: first, that we show love for God by honoring sacred spaces—this includes our hearts, our minds, and our homes—and keeping them clean from sin and corruption as much as we can; second, that God wants to heal us and to help us become true disciples of His Son, especially when we are weighed down by the burdens we have as imperfect people living in an imperfect world.

Invitation: Open Your Heart to Greater Love
What is something you could do this week to prepare to receive the Savior’s healing? Is there something in your physical space that needs to be removed, changed, or cleaned up? Is there something in your heart or your mind that needs to change? The Lord invites us on this day and every day to come to Him, ask for forgiveness, repent, and be healed.

Reflection Journal Prompt:
What came to your mind as you thought about some small or large changes in your life that, if made, could prepare you to receive the Lord’s healing?
What is one step you can take today toward having more holy and sacred space in your life?

Palm Sunday

On Palm Sunday, Jesus Christ made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem as His followers waved palm fronds and laid down cloaks in His path. They surrounded Jesus with love and praise, shouting “Hosanna”—a phrase meaning “please save us.” Many of Jesus’s followers expected Him to save them from Roman rule, but His goals were more eternal. Jesus came to earth not to provide political deliverance but to save all humankind from sin and death.

Why Did Joseph Smith Pray?
Seeking the truth wasn’t Joseph Smith’s only motivation.
One of the primary reasons Joseph Smith prayed in the Sacred Grove was to know which of the churches he should join.

But Joseph also prayed because he “became convicted of my sins.”1 In other words, he wanted to repent of his mistakes.

Third, Joseph prayed because he felt inspired to do so. After reading James 1:5, which invites us to ask God, Joseph received a powerful prompting from heaven. “Never did any passage of scripture come with more power to the heart of man than this did at this time to mine. It seemed to enter with great force into every feeling of my heart. I reflected on it again and again, knowing that if any person needed wisdom from God, I did” (Joseph Smith—History 1:12).

Our prayers can have similar motivations: to know truth, to repent, or simply because the Spirit invites us to pray. And like Joseph’s, our prayers will be more meaningful if we humbly and diligently prepare ourselves for the experience.
