Job 38:1-7

Why does God allow suffering in our lives? Sin is in the world and brings about suffering. We also have the choice to do what we want to do which can lead to sin and suffering. That doesn't mean that God is not with us. He is still right with us during the suffering. Job knew God was right with him through ALL of the struggles in his life.

What can we do to make sure we are connected to God?

Pray, read the Bible, surround ourselves with people who follow Jesus, and worship!

Job has more failure this week, this time in his friends. His friends thought that if God was testing Job that he must have either made God mad, he didn't really know God, or he just needed to repent.

Job responds with the scripture from Job 12:10 "In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind" Job is basically telling his friends that he doesn't know why all of these things are happening, but everything is in God's control.

No one likes to feel like we have failed at something. We have high expectations for ourselves and want to do well at things in life.

Maybe God allowed Job to go through these things so that we can learn from his suffering. We can learn that if we put our hope and faith in "stuff" instead of the Lord, we will actually be empty. The hard things we go through can help us give advice to others from God's Word.

We created fortune tellers that remind us of God's promises.

Last week we introduced our series on the book of Job. We learned about being a follower of Christ even when things don't go how we think they should go.

We learned about Satan telling God that Job is only following Him because Job has lots of wealth. God replies that Satan can take anything from Job except his life to see if that's the only reason Job follows God. Satan tested Job by destroying many things in Job's life.

Job was extremely upset, tearing his clothes and falling to the ground. He began to WORSHIP the Lord, saying that he knows the Lord gives and takes away.

Job was a true follower of Christ who had integrity. He knew that there was no value in Earthly things, only in our relationship with God. We have to walk by faith even when we don't understand what may be happening.

"Taste and see that the Lord is good.
How happy is the person who takes refuge in him!"
Ps 34:8

In Psalm 34:1-7, David boasts about God. David is telling the reader (us) to experience God's goodness for themselves. This goodness could only come through a personal encounter. Taste and see for yourself!

We made homemade pop tarts to remind us that tasting is the best part of the baking!

Today we took the money from our VBS missions offering to buy items that Malorie's Place needs to stock their pantry. We toured Malorie's Place and learned how they work to help people in the Maiden community. These kids have the best heart and were so willing to buy things for those in need. 💙
