Reading a book today, I ran across a story of Donald Grey Barnhouse. On his way home from the funeral of his first wife, he was trying to think of some way of comforting his children. Just then a huge moving van passed by their car and its shadow swept over them. Instantly, Barnhouse asked, "Children, would you rather be run over by a truck or by its shadow?" The children replied, "Of course we'd prefer the shadow!"
To which Barnhouse replied, "Two thousand years ago the truck of death ran over the Lord Jesus... now only the shadow of Death can run over us!"
To all who repent and believe the Good News of Jesus Christ... Death has lost its Sting! PRAISE GOD!

This message below is not just to the young person, but to all of us, and to churches everywhere to come back to the true purpose of "church". No church is perfect including ours, but this post is described the passion of the pastor, elders and ministry leaders of Bible Center Church. And when you see an area where we as a body are not fulfilling one of these calls of Christ to the church, we ask that you would consider how you can be the answer to that need and talk to us about how we can partner with you in serving the body and the community better! We are not simply church attenders, but integral parts for the proper function of one body... the body of Christ in the world today!
God is preparing us for greater things!

Run From Comfortable Christianity

My message to every young man and woman who follows Christ is simple:

Run from the industrial-church-entertainment complex.

Stop searching for a church based on what you can get from it. Instead, find a church that calls you to give your life away for the glory of Christ and the advancement of His gospel.

Not long ago I spoke with a pastor who shared a conversation that has stayed with me.

He had run into a couple who had left his church and kindly asked, "Would you mind telling me why you decided to leave?"

Their answer was heartbreaking: "We wanted to go somewhere that didn't require anything of us."

That response is shocking, but sadly it isn't unusual.

I encounter that mindset far too often. Many professing Christians don't want a church that asks for sacrifice. They don't want to be inconvenienced. They don't want to carry responsibility. They want inspiration without obligation, comfort without commitment, encouragement without accountability.

They want a church that serves them rather than a church that sends them.

But that is not the Christianity Jesus preached.
Jesus never invited people to a life of ease. He said, "If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me."

The gospel does not revolve around self-fulfillment; it calls us to self-denial.

It calls us to prayer when we'd rather sleep.

It calls us to discipleship when we'd rather consume.

It calls us to evangelism when we'd rather remain silent.

It calls us to generosity when we'd rather accumulate.

It calls us to serve when we'd rather be served.

It calls us to pour out our lives for others because Christ first poured out His life for us.

The New Testament knows nothing of spectators in the Kingdom of God. Every believer is called to ministry. Every disciple is called to make disciples. Every Christian has a cross before they receive a crown.

So choose your church carefully.

Don't look for the one with the most impressive production, the best entertainment, or the least demanding expectations.

Find a church where people pray.

Find a church where holiness is pursued.

Find a church where the Scriptures are faithfully preached.

Find a church that is contending for revival instead of merely managing religious services.

Find a church that loves its neighborhood enough to serve it.

Find a church that raises up missionaries, plants churches, and sends people to the nations.

Find a church that will lovingly challenge your comfort, expose your selfishness, deepen your faith, and compel you to live on mission.

Don't settle for being a consumer of religious experiences.

Become a servant of Christ.

The world doesn't need more entertained Christians.

It needs disciples who have died to themselves and are fully alive to Christ.
