Christ is Risen Indeed!

04/04/2026

Sitting here Holy Saturday, drinking my coffee and reflecting on the events on that dark Friday 2000 years ago.

Even though prophesy was fulfilled, nobody believed Jesus is the Son of God. Even my brain has difficulty imagining such a horrible death for such a loving soul .

Today, my reflection is wrapped up in the fact that “God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son, so that whosoever believeth in him should have eternal life.”

Imagine that horrible death, and then just imagine a love that is so deep and wide that it includes us as we are.

So tomorrow as we celebrate the resurrection we must remember we have cause to celebrate. Jesus came to this earth, tried for 3 years to teach us about God’s love, and then died so that we might have eternal life.

See you in church tomorrow!

The week has flown by. Today’s Friday and Sunday’s coming!

Last evening Jesus invited his closest friends and disciples to Passover dinner that we now call The Last Supper. Jesus ended the evening serving bread and wine with the blessing, the bread was his body and the wine was his blood. The disciples still didn’t understand fully who Jesus was. The group adjourned to the Garden of Gethsemane for the first half of the night. Jesus prayed and everybody else dozed off. And the soldiers came.

Jesus has spent the last few days trying to convince folks he is who he says he is and he’s getting negative feedback. You gotta remember the regular people were expecting a KING not a humble servant to the people. The upper echelon were looking for a KING but with trepidation. And so there was a divide soon to be reconciliation because both sides felt they had been betrayed. Passover is when the ultimate love story begins. So, tonight, which “side” are you on? The side of love, respect and a deep faith in Jesus. Or the side of wavering faith and a reliance on worldly things. And so the momentum builds ‘cause Easter’s coming!

The next morning Jesus taught another powerful lesson about using/not using our faith . This one fig tree was having trouble producing fruit. Jesus likened that to lack of faith and sentenced that tree to a dry life. His comment was if you ask you shall receive.
Don’t sit around with arms crossed. Learn to talk to God as your best friend so that when you ask Him for something you know you will receive. Pretend you’re talking to God on your cell phone. That ought to work!

Today we began the journey from the palms to the cross. And we know the timeline works coordinating our Holy Week with Passover. And so we begin.
The welcoming parade of palm branches evidently was a lot of fun but for the wrong reason. As Jesus approached the temple he saw a bunch of stuff going on the he didn’t like at all and so we have the infamous temper tantrum. He said quite plainly, “My house shall be a house of prayer.”
As we continue our journey this week let us be mindful of our relationship to the church. Do we treat our churches as houses of prayer or as political pawns.
