Second Chances by Pastor Glenn Campbell
Each of us have that one thing in life that we regret we had done. We needed a Savior to take us out of it. All of us have a 'second chance'. Jesus paid the price for our sins.
John 10:10 "The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)." (AMPC)
Eph 3:20 "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,"
1 Cor 15:3-8 "For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time."
John 6:47 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life."
1 Cor 1:18 "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
1 Cor 15:12-19 "Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable."
The joy of today is that we have something to look forward to. We know God has a plan and purpose for us. We can live our lives without the fear of death. When it does happen to us, we will surely have a BIG family reunion in eternal life with Jesus and all those who have gone before us.
Many of us are like 'doubting Thomas'. We have doubts and questions.
John 20:24 -29 "Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.” And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Faith is seeing those thing that are not as though they are.
Rom 4:17 "... in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;"
2 Cor 5:7 "For we walk by faith, not by sight."
Psalm 22 was the prophecy of the crucifixion of Jesus.
Psalm 22:1 "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?...."
John 12:32 "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”
The Persians invented crucifixion. The Romans perfected it. It was not meant to kill them, but to torture them.
Our God of 'second chances'.
When Jesus spoke with the woman at the well who had several marriages that failed. He did not condemn her.
John 4:13-14 "Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
We know the story of the woman caught in adultry.
John 8:7-11"So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
Rom 3:23 "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"
John 1:4-5 "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it."
The light is not to reveal where you have fallen short to condemn you, but to heal you emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Those are 'second chances'.
Mark 5:15 "Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind."
1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
1 Cor 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."
1 John 3:8 "for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil."
Seven times in the book of John, Jesus uses the term "I Am". Therefore, He is whatever you need.
Isa 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
