Don’t measure truth by popularity.

Jeremiah repeatedly stood against voices that were telling people exactly what they wanted to hear.

That is why Pastor Connie warned us not to confuse encouragement with truth.

Something is not automatically from God because it sounds good. And something is not automatically false because it confronts us, challenges us, or makes us uncomfortable.

Popularity is not the measuring stick.

Followers are not the measuring stick.

Applause is not the measuring stick.

The Word of God is.

Jeremiah was able to stand when the majority disagreed with him because his confidence did not come from simply being different. His confidence came from what God had revealed.

There is an important balance there.

Standing alone does not automatically make us right. Being unpopular does not automatically make us prophetic. Our conviction has to remain anchored in God’s Word, prayer, consecration, and submission to the Spirit of God.

When those things become our foundation, we stop asking, How many people agree with this?

We begin asking, “What has God said?”

Spiritual strength is not emotional hardness.

One of the most powerful lessons Pastor Connie drew from Jeremiah was that his tears were not evidence of weakness.

Jeremiah felt deeply because he carried the heart of God deeply.

He grieved over people who rejected God’s Word. He wrestled privately with the weight of his assignment. He reached moments where he wanted to quit. Yet the Word of God remained like fire shut up in his bones.

Somewhere along the way, people sometimes confuse faith with refusing to feel.

But God gave us emotions.

Spiritual strength does not require pretending something does not hurt. Courage does not mean you never cry. Faith does not require becoming emotionally numb.

You can be courageous and still have a tender heart.

The goal is not to stop feeling. The goal is to refuse to allow what you feel to become the authority over what God has said.

Feel it. Bring it before God. Ask the Holy Spirit for help. Then allow the Word to steady your footing again.

A tender heart with a strong backbone is not weakness.

That is mature spiritual fire.

God can give you a strong backbone without giving you a hard heart.

Jeremiah had every human reason to become bitter. He was rejected, misunderstood, mocked, persecuted, and opposed by many of the very people God sent him to serve. Yet he continued to grieve for them. He continued to carry the heart of God for them.

That is what spiritual maturity looks like.

God does not have to harden your heart in order to strengthen your backbone.

There will be people who misunderstand you. There will be people who reject what God has placed inside of you. There will even be moments when loving people becomes difficult. But Pastor Connie reminded us that we cannot become bitter toward the people God has called us to serve.

Sometimes the difficult person is part of the training. Sometimes the opposition is where patience, self-control, compassion, endurance, and love are developed.

You can stand firmly in truth without becoming cruel.
You can refuse to compromise without becoming cynical.
You can have courage and still remain tender.

Let God strengthen your backbone without allowing the battle to harden your heart.

There comes a time when God begins calling things back into alignment.

Not just our circumstances.
Our hearts.
Our priorities.
Our relationships.
Our purpose.
Our obedience.

Sometimes the frustration we feel is not because God has forgotten us. It is because He is moving us out of places, patterns, and positions that no longer agree with where He is taking us.

Alignment requires movement.

On Sunday, September 27 at 3:00 PM, we are coming together at Messengers of Life for a special service, “Moving Into Divine Alignment.”

Come expecting more than another church service. Come ready to hear God, respond to Him, and allow Him to put some things back where they belong.

God’s presence doesn’t always prevent the battle. Sometimes His presence is what carries you through it.

In Jeremiah 1:19, God did not tell Jeremiah that no one would fight against him. He told him they would fight against him, but they would not prevail.

There is a tremendous difference.

We often pray expecting God’s presence to remove the opposition. We believe, fast, pray, and wait for the situation to change. Then when the battle remains in front of us, our minds begin asking questions God never asked us to entertain.

Did God leave me?
Did He hear me?
Do I not have enough faith?

Pastor Connie reminded us that the presence of opposition is not proof of the absence of God.

Sometimes He delivers you before the fight. Sometimes He walks you directly through it.

And in the middle of that place, God reveals something you could not have discovered any other way: He has already placed within you what is necessary to face what is standing in front of you.

You may not feel strong. You may not feel His presence the way you expected. But God is still God when you feel Him and when you do not.

You are not staying there. You are going through it.
