I don't know who first said this, but I believe it's true.

"Life isn't fair. Anyone who says otherwise is pushing something."

After the news of Kobe's death a familiar theme came out in media posts, "It's not fair."

Nope, it's not. Fair is the last thing it is. Life is absolutely unfair. And thank God. Where would any of us be if life were truly fair.

Psalms 103:8‭-‬10
"The Lord is merciful! He is kind and patient, and his love never fails. The Lord won't always be angry and point out our sins; he doesn't punish us as our sins deserve."

Here's a perspective that helps me make sense of this past weekend.

Death isn’t a respecter of people. It doesn’t care if you are rich or poor; religious or not; famous, infamous or unknown; or even the great Kobe Bryant, who had vast resources and money at his disposal. It knocks at every door, and sadly one day it will knock at your door and mine.

Bob Lindmeier has been a wonderful friend of FCA donating his time in support of our annual UW-Madison FCA Golf Classic.

Today's State Journal has a front page story on Bob. In it he references his faith in God and how it influences his professional life.

In his 40th year as a local broadcast meteorologist, Lindmeier says he has a "unique podium" from which to reach people with peer-reviewed climate science.

Sometimes I try to put myself in Joseph's shoes.

I think Jesus' earthly dad is the unsung hero of the Christmas story.

Nothing, not one single thing about his plans to become a husband and father turned out the way he'd intended.

He was visited in an dream by God's own messenger, told to obey things he could never imagined being told to do. There's no way on earth he would have been able to understand the heavenly things he was charged to do. Yet he did them without question or hesitation.

Nobody in their little town would have faulted Joseph for bailing on Mary and her unborn child. He was a respected man. Everyone knew about the "scandal" of her pregnancy. When Joseph announced he was going to proceed with their betrothal, her "shame" became his in the eyes of their neighbors and friends.

This morning I read a clever "Q & A interview" with Joseph, created by the people at Bible Gateway. Originally published for Father's Day, it has a lot relevance to Christmas.

Scroll down a bit in the blog and you'll find the "interview."

Peace,

Steve

Father’s Day is an annual occasion to help us take stock of what it means to be a father (or, in its broader context, a man in some kind of leadership role with another). We have several previous blogposts we encourage you to read: ⇨ What Makes a Good Dad? ⇨ Fathers & Faith: New …

Each Wednesday members of the Badgers Softball coaching staff meet for an hour of study, fellowship, encouragement and prayer. Yesterday, to celebrate Christmas we went to Vitense, had our usual study, enjoyed lunch and whacked a bucket of balls. Thank you Danielle Zymkowitz, Yvette Healy, Kyle Kittel, and Kirsten Verdun for allowing me to journey with you in 2019.

Ps. Kyle was the undisputed distance champion. There was some debate as to who finished second.

Congrats Tyler Biadasz for becoming the first Wisconsin player in history to win the Rimington Trophy for the nation’s most outstanding center.

And to Jonathan Taylor for being named the Doak Walker Award winner as the nation’s premier running back, becoming just the second repeat winner in the award’s history.

I'm thrilled for you both.
