Throwback Thursday!

Today's memory was submitted by Jeanne Eisele. In 1996, the youth of UMC Madison created a special quilt in memory of the children killed at Dunblane Primary School in Scotland. The quilt was featured in the Madison Eagle, and includes messages of love, hope, and peace, as well as the names of those who lost their lives. A letter received from the community in Dunblane mentions that the quilt would be displayed "at a specially built chapel [in the Cathedral] for the remembrance of the tragedy."

Thirty years later, we honor the memory of these children and we continue to pray for children and families permanently affected by gun violence in all forms. May they be comforted with God's love.

Throwback Thursday!

We found this front-page clipping from the Madison Eagle in an old scrapbook. Dated February 10, 1966, it shows a teen dance event in our very own Fellowship Hall! The caption reads, "Canteen's 'In' For Teeners: About 200 local teenagers attended 'MARC I,' the first Madison canteen event, sponsored by the Madison Area Recreation Committee, Saturday night in Fellowship Hall of the Madison Methodist Church. Pictured are some of the teenagers dancing to the music of 'The Uproars,' a rock and roll band whose members attend Pingry School. The event was a complete success, according to Steve Peri, MARC chairman, who says the group even made a slight, 'but unintentional' profit due to the soda being sold at cost to MARC by the Colonial Shop's proprietor. The next canteen is tentatively scheduled for February 19."
