Check out this great article in the Wisconsin State Journal about Lyle Anderson, one of two organists who play for our church and the official carillonneur at the UW Madison campus! We are so blessed to hear Lyle's performance of hymns, Bach pieces, and more regularly at our church.

"I didn't realize you could be a useful musician," Anderson said. "This instrument fits me in that way."

Today as we commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Christian Science practitioner Joel Magnes has some uplifting thoughts to share on this short episode of the Daily Lift podcast, from his experience on the ground in NYC during the event. -----

As I prayed the other morning to know that our world can shift from its current polarized state to more unity and inclusiveness, I was reminded of 9/11/2001 and the day after those horrific events in New York City. My Christian Science church, about 80 blocks from ground zero, had stayed open all day and evening to provide a quiet place for anyone to pray, reflect, and be comforted.

A woman came into the church and kissed the doorway. With little command of English, she pointed to me and asked, "Christian?" I nodded. She tapped her heart with her hand and said, "Muslim." I nodded and smiled. Then she tapped her heart again and said, smiling, "Sister." I tapped mine and responded, "Brother." Then she went inside to pray.

For several months that followed, there was a tangible sense of oneness around the city, of being united as one universal, spiritual family, caring about and supporting each other, even though we might be strangers. Religion didn't matter. Ethnicity didn't matter. Nationality didn't matter. Hot-button political and social issues faded into the background. We were all just equally God's children. You could see it and feel it in everyone's eyes.

The book of Malachi asks, "Have we not all one father? Hath not one God created us?" Yes! And it will always be so. That post-9/11 feeling was simply the underlying eternal truth that we're all God's sons and daughters, being allowed to surface. And in order to acknowledge that truth, we don't need tragic events to force us.

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy writes, "the depth, breadth, height, might, majesty, and glory of infinite Love fill all space." How is anyone excluded from what fills all space? God, divine Love, is infinite. We can't be outside this infinite creation; it's impossible. We are divine, God's children, Love's spiritual expressions. Everyone is part of one universal family, brothers and sisters forever.

Daily Lift podcasts are short takes on inspiring ideas to enrich your day and share with friends.
