This Sunday at Meadowood: New Series – The Road to the Cross and the Empty Tomb

There is a turning point in the Gospel of Luke that changes everything, not just for Jesus, not just for those living in the first century but for all of us for all time. Luke tells us that when the time came, “He set his face to go to Jerusalem.”

Jesus was not swept along by circumstances. He was not reacting to pressure. He was not trapped by events. He moved toward Jerusalem purposefully and with deliberate resolve, fully aware of what awaited Him there.

Jesus did not just carry the cross on the Via de la Rosa, but from this moment forward, every step Jesus takes carries the weight of the cross.

This Sunday we begin a new Easter journey together. We will walk the road with Jesus, from determined resolve to royal entry, from suffering to resurrection glory. But it all begins with one powerful verse. Luke 9:51

What does it mean that Jesus set His face?

What does it reveal about His love, His mission, and His authority?

And what does it demand of us?

Join us as we begin our journey on the road to the cross and the glory of the empty tomb!

(We will return to our Ephesians Series after Easter)

Imagine this!

Before you ever prayed a prayer… before you ever struggled or stumbled… before the world itself was formed, God was already at work and you were a part of his incredible plan.

This Sunday we will step into week 2 of our series from Paul's letter to the saints at Ephesus. It is one of the most awe-inspiring passages in Scripture and we will hear what Paul wants every saint to know.

In spite of what you may think, your faith story did not begin with you. Your story began with the heart of the Father. You were a part of the master plan. In Christ, God has already blessed His people with every spiritual blessing, chosen them in love, and welcomed them into His family by grace.

This passage invites us to lift our eyes above our circumstances and rest in a deeper truth. We are not earning our place with God. We are living out a plan that began in eternity, fueled by love, and aimed at the praise of His glorious grace which He has lavished on you.

Did you get that ... "LAVISHED on YOU!"

Come ready to be grounded, encouraged, and reminded who you are in Christ and why grace is the foundation of everything God is building in your life.

We're here every week at about 10:AM on line. Better still, visit us in person ... Coffee and snacks begin at 9 AM ... worship begins at 9:30.

"We're the home you always wanted church to be."

This week we are beginning a series of messages from the book of Ephesians.

“Built by Grace: Becoming the People of God”

God’s plan is bigger than individual faith.
It is about forming a people for His glory.

Ephesians reveals how God grace, unites us in Christ, and builds the church as a living testimony of His wisdom and power. In this series, we will explore how the gospel shapes not only your personal faith, but how it builds community, how it defines relationships, and how it provides spiritual strength in a challenging world.

In addition to the morning message, we will be launching an interactive study hour after the message that we are calling "Digging Deeper."

Each week we will take time to reflect on the message and interact with questions and insights that have engaged listeners during the message. Of course there will be pastor Mattox's favorite thing ... Bunny Trails! :)

Message 1 from the series will focus on an introduction series and we will tackle the first 2 verses of the book.

Ephesians 1:1–2 — “Grace and Peace: The Posture of the Gospel Life”

Here are some of the themes we will investigate: Identity, apostleship, the true church, grace, peace

It is important to start here because aside from the fact that it is the beginning of the book, Paul’s greeting contains the DNA of the entire letter, grounding the church in grace and peace before unfolding God’s eternal plan.

And ...... Ephesians is loaded with themes that relate to practical Gospel living!

Join us and discover how God is building His people, and how your life fits into His eternal purpose. It's gonna be good!

What happens after Christmas?

After the manger. After the cross. After the empty tomb.

This Sunday, we’re finishing our Jesus in the Psalms series by lifting our eyes to Psalm 110, a psalm Jesus Himself quoted and the New Testament returns to again and again. It shows us not only who Jesus was, but where He is right now.

Do you ever wonder if Jesus is really in control. Are you left wondering why our world feels so unstable, or whether your faithfulness still matters when life feels hard. You are not alone ... but take heart!! Psalm 110 reminds us that Jesus is not distant, defeated, or disengaged. He reigns. He intercedes. And He holds history, and our lives, in His hands.

Join us here (approximately 10 AM every Sunday) or in person and see Jesus not only as Savior, but as the Priest-King who reigns forever, and discover why that truth changes how we live every single day.

Coming up next ... a series of messages from the book of Ephesians.

Zach and I have been chatting and we have decided that discretion is the better part of valor.

Based on several factors, we will be cancelling church for tomorrow. We wanted wait as long as possible to make this decision but in the end we feel like safety wins the day.

Enjoy the day with your family!

This Sunday i am sharing a devotional message titled “The Key to Real Joy”, a heartfelt reflection on 25 years of ministry, centered on the words of Jesus in John 13–16.

We live in a world chasing happiness but missing true joy. What if lasting joy isn’t found in comfort or success, but in a relationship with Jesus?

This message explores how joy comes through abiding in Christ, grows through prayer, endures sorrow, and is anchored in the resurrection. Whether your heart is full or heavy, this message is for you.

Last Sunday we celebrated the past, this week we will rehearse Jesus’ words to find strength for today, and renew our hope for tomorrow … together.

Our day will start at 9:30 as we share a breakfast meal together. Egg bites, pastries, sausage burritos, fruit and muffins … OJ and coffee.

Hope you can join us!

Warning is more to article ...

“God Said It, I Believe It, That Settles It”: A Closer Look at a Troubling Phrase

I grew up in a conservative Christian home and church and my formal education was in the same vein. I consider my theological perspective to be conservative, evangelical (the “evangelical” description has morphed so much in the last decade that sometimes I wonder what it really means), and I am a dispensational pre-millennialist … although I may be a bit “leaky” (to coin a phrase) … in my eschatology.

One of the phrases that I often heard used in my theological world is the subject of this article. I liked it. It was easy to remember. It was my gotcha phrase. It was my Superman, “leaps tall buildings with a single bound” phrase. I could win any argument with that one!

How naïve I was!

Let me digress a bit ….

My week is a bit different because this Sunday my church family told me to just show up. No preaching for me this week. God has blest me with 25 years of ministry with the wonderful people at Meadowood Baptist Church and this Sunday we are going to celebrate 25 years together. I am sure it will be a day of joy and tears … God is so good!

If you'd like to read the whole thing ... DM me and i will send .

This Sunday, we will celebrate Children's Day with a special message from Mark 10:13-16, where Jesus demonstrates just how precious children are to His heart. When the disciples tried to turn away parents bringing their little ones to Jesus, He was indignant and said, "Let the little children come to me. Don't stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."

These aren't just beautiful words—they reveal Jesus' deep love for children and His recognition of their unique place in God's kingdom. Children possess qualities that Jesus says we all need: trust, wonder, authenticity, and an openness to receive God's love without pretense. In a world that often overlooks or rushes past childhood, Jesus turns the culture on its head by blessing, embracing, and affirming each child's infinite worth.

This Sunday we will discover what the Bible means when it says that the kingdom of heaven belongs to children and how we, as a church family, can follow Jesus' example by creating spaces where children are welcomed, valued, and celebrated. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, teacher, or simply someone who believes in the power of investing in the next generation, this service will remind us all why children matter deeply to God and should matter deeply to us.

Join us as we honor our children and learn from Jesus' radical love for the youngest among us. Come expecting to see God's kingdom through the eyes of a child.
