Join us today, Tuesday October 27th, for our noontime worship service. Rev. Dr. Kevin Newburg will preach a message titled, "The Five Ups," based on Matthew 25:1-13. You can join us on campus in Craig Chapel, or online via Facebook or YouTube. We hope to see you there!

In 1964, just weeks after Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke at Drew, urging students to take action for civil rights, demonstrations erupted across Madison as students and community members protested barbershops that were discriminating against Black patrons. Ultimately, this led to the NJ Supreme Court Case, "Sellers v Philips" putting Drew and Madison at the center of the national Civil Rights movement.

Join us for a special commemoration of these events, starting with worship in Craig Chapel at 12pm on Thursday, October 22nd.

3pm Plaque Dedication on the Grounds of the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts
4:30pm Reception at the Museum

Join us for a special chapel service today, Thursday October 22nd, at 12pm. Our chapel service, with special guest Dr. Arthur Jones, is part of the Madison Barber Shop Protests Unveiling Ceremony, a commemoration of the brave actions of protest against segregation and racism by Drew students in 1964. Dr. Jones was a part of these protests, and we are honored to host him and hear his wisdom in word and song. We hope to see you in Craig Chapel, or online via Facebook or YouTube. Every Wednesday, we invite you to pause and pray with us. Today’s Pause & Pray is written and curated by Sinae Hwang.

🙏🏻 Pray

God of Love,
You bring us together from different places, cultures, and experiences. You remind us that each person carries a story worthy of being heard and a life worthy of being loved.
Yet loving one another is not always easy. Sometimes we misunderstand each other. Sometimes we listen only to respond rather than to understand.
Teach us to listen with open hearts and to see one another with compassion. Help us welcome differences, make room for voices that are often unheard, and offer kindness even when understanding one another is difficult.
May our community be a garden where every person can grow, where differences are honored, and where no one has to feel alone.
Remind us that love is not only something we say, but something we practice through small acts of kindness, patience, and care.
May we become a community connected by love, growing together in hope, grace, and peace.
Amen.

“Love is patient; love is kind.”
Love is more than a feeling. It is a way of being with one another.
We come from different places and carry different stories. We may not always agree or fully understand one another. Yet love invites us to remain curious, listen deeply, and honor the dignity of every person.
A loving community does not ask everyone to be the same. Like a garden filled with different flowers, its beauty comes from the ways we grow alongside one another.
Perhaps building such a community begins with something small: listening without judgment, offering a word of encouragement, or sitting beside someone who feels alone.

Today, may we pause and ask ourselves:
● Whose voice do I need to listen to more carefully?
● How can I help someone feel seen, welcomed, and valued?
● What small act of love can I offer to my community today?
May love shape not only what we believe, but also how we live together.

Join us today, Tuesday October 20th at 12pm, for chapel with special guest and CLA '12 grad Dr. Jim Robinson, Director of the Deignan Institute for Earth and Spirit at Iona University. Dr. Robinson will present on the theme "Beyond Factory Farming: Mindful Eating as Ritual Resistance."

After chapel, all are invited to Dr. Kearns' Religions & Foods class in Sem Hall 209, with Dr. Robinson as guest lecturer. He asks, "Can eating be a mindful ritual for connecting with the wider web of life? Can eating also be a site for critically reflecting on and creatively resisting the status quo? In this talk, we will reflect on the system of factory farming, which harms countless human and more-than-human beings, and which contributes significantly to our ecocrisis. We will also reflect on constructive alternatives to this system—signs of hope for a more just, sustainable, and joyful future."
