UPDATE 4/14/26
We wanted to share an update on Papa Larry after his camper fire in the early morning hours of March 30th.
He continues to gradually improve, and we are so thankful to God. He spent 11 days in the ICU at Shands in Gainesville, where he made significant progress, but after being transferred to rehab, he became deathly ill within a day and was urgently moved back to Shands Hospital in the MICU. It was a very serious setback, and we nearly lost him a few times.
Since then, he has been receiving excellent care and is working hard to regain the progress he had made. He is now off the ventilator, which is a huge step forward. This has all placed a lot of stress on his heart, and they are continuing to monitor that closely. He is still battling a serious infection and pneumonia, and his lungs and airways remain affected from the smoke inhalation and cyanide poisoning. We are working closely with respiratory doctors to help strengthen his airways and support his breathing.
He has a team of specialist taking care of him and addressing the different challenges his body is facing. They are continually running tests to monitor how he is responding to treatments and medications as they work to fight off the infections. His burns on his arms, hands, and head are improving, though his arms and hands still require significant healing.
He has fought so hard, and while the road ahead is still long, we are encouraged by the slow progress he continues to make. We have been staying by his side as things can still change quickly.
Thank you all so much for the prayers, cards, meals, and financial support. We truly cannot express how much your love and prayers mean to us. We continue to pray for his complete healing and are so grateful to have such an incredible community surrounding us.
