The Madison Diocesan Choir is a music ministry dedicated to the mission of fostering and encouraging full, conscious, and active participation in the liturgy in the Diocese of Madison. Whether a teacher, nurse, or business person (to name only a few of our occupations), each member strives towards excellence in ...this unique ministry of the Church. At the same time, most have remained active as c
antor, choir member, choir director, or accompanist in their own parish. All are welcome to join the Choir, which rehearses each Tuesday evening at Bishop O’Connor Catholic Pastoral Center in Madison. Founded in 1973, the Choir has traveled throughout the Diocese of Madison and around the world in an effort to bring to life the vision of the Second Vatican Council for full, conscious, and active participation by all of the faithful. The Choir regularly sings with parish choirs for Masses or concert programs of sacred choral music, combining the music of our Catholic heritage with the compositions of today in an effort to bring all to a deeper understanding of the liturgy and the role that music plays in prayer. For their outstanding efforts, the Diocesan Choir was awarded the Bishop’s Service Award in December, 2003. Most recently the choir travelled through the Great Lakes’ states and into Canada singing in Cleveland, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec. The Diocesan Choir tours every three years and has sung in such prestigious places as the Duomo in Florence, the Kölner Dom (Cologne Cathedral), Saint Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney, and the Alhambra in Granada, Spain.
