Congratulations to ROBERTO ERIUS!!
In 2016, when Roberto was 14 years old, he started school at BGM High School as an 8th grader. Then in 2018, received a sponsorship through But God Ministries. When he graduated from high school, he was #14 in his class. In 2022, BGM announced that there was a donor that had agreed to send funds annually to scholarship 13 graduates from BGM High School to UPROH University in Ganthier. Roberto desperately wanted one of these scholarships, but he was afraid he missed the mark. But God had other plans.....
Here is his interview from 2023 after being in college for a little over a year:
Roberto Erius is a 2022 graduate from BGM High School and a leader in his school and community. He was first sponsored in 2018 as a 10th grader after his siblings were sponsored. His parents wanted him to ask for sponsorship sooner, but he felt like it was more important for his younger siblings to be able to go to school first. He worked odd jobs to pay for his own school until it was finally his turn to get a sponsor.
Roberto loves to play soccer and learn! He even has a dream of one day helping to build a soccer stadium in his village. He believes that this could improve the community, provide jobs for people and an opportunity for the community to grow. He has lived in Galette Chambon with his parents, three sisters and three brothers his entire life until recently when the family had to evacuate due to gang violence. Roberto’s parents are farmers, which means their income hasn’t always been consistent, and finding work where they live now has been really hard, but Roberto has tried to encourage them and help the family in any way that he can. The decision to move was very difficult for Roberto because he loves to hang out with his friends, and his village is home to him. As a leader among the fourteen university students, it was hard for him to let go of his role and move to another area, but he realized that his family needed him more, and this would be a time when each university student would have to find a way to make it on their own.
Looking back to his graduation year, Roberto is still in awe that he was chosen as one of the thirteen graduates to receive a scholarship. He was number fourteen in his class, so when he heard that the top thirteen would be getting scholarships, he was afraid that he had missed the mark. However, he scored the second highest on his national exam not just at BGM High School but in the entire Ganthier area! He was hoping that this might push him up a little and make it possible to still get a scholarship anyway. Sure enough, one of the top thirteen moved with her family to another country after graduation, so Roberto moved up into the scholarship bracket! He was beyond excited to find out that he would have an opportunity to go to college on scholarship.
Roberto has always dreamed of becoming a doctor one day, so at first, he was disappointed to find out that Providence University didn’t have a medical degree program. But then he learned that he could get his bachelor’s degree in any area that might benefit him and then he could apply for medical school after that, so he chose
administration with a minor in biology. He believes that his gifts as a leader will be made stronger with a degree in administration, and adding in biology will help prepare him for his next step towards medical school. He hopes to not only become a doctor one day, but perhaps even a medical director or administrator of his own hospital. He would love to one day be an administrator at a teaching hospital! He just knows that if God has made a way for him to go to college, then the sky is the limit for him, and he is going to work very hard to see his dreams become a reality.
CONGRATULATIONS ROBERTO!!! God has great plans for you indeed and He will make a way for you to see your dreams come true!!
