Chosei Zen

Chosei Zen We offer training in Rinzai Zen, Martial Arts and Fine Arts. Chosei Zen provides training in the Rinzai Zen tradition. Introductory classes are available.

This training involves three parts: "zazen" (sitting meditation); the martial arts - primarily archery ("kyudo") and swordsmanship ("hojo"); and the fine arts such as calligraphy ("shodo"). We have two training sites: one on the Eastside of Madison and one in Spring Green, Wisconsin, approximately 45 miles outside of town. We also have a Virtual Dojo that provides online zazen and classes. Kindly

e-mail [email protected] for class times. For more information about our organization and class schedules, visit our website, choseizen.org.

EDIT: We reached our goal! What an outstanding campaign. We are so deeply grateful to all of our supporters.

"Everyone who commits to Zen practice gets transformed, but it doesn’t happen instantly, and it doesn’t happen alone. It takes time. It takes teachers, students, and volunteers. And it takes financial support—because our entire organization runs on the offerings of those who value what this training gives."

Olga Kalinina, Chosei Zen Treasurer

Training doesn't have a price tag -- but it does have a cost. Every period of zazen, online or in-person, relies on countless invisible supports.

This month, during our annual fundraiser, we have shared stories from teachers and students which illustrate the time, labor, and leadership necessary to sustain training, and how your financial support plays a vital role in that shared effort.

As of today, we are still $6.2K short of our $30,000 fundraising goal.
We invite our supporters to help us reach this goal and sustain training in 2025.

We are so thankful to those who have already contributed.
