Happy All Saints Sunday from St. Andrew's!

"I sing a song of the saints of God,
patient and brave and true,
who toiled and fought and lived and died
for the Lord they loved and knew.
And one was a doctor, and one was a queen,
and one was a shepherdess on the green;
they were all of them saints of God, and I mean,
God helping, to be one too.

They loved their Lord so dear, so dear,
and His love made them strong,
and they followed the right for Jesus’ sake,
the whole of their good lives long.
And one was a soldier, and one was a priest,
and one was slain by a fierce wild beast;
and there’s not any reason, no, not the least,
why I shouldn’t be one too.

They lived not only in ages past;
there are hundreds of thousands still.
The world is bright with the joyous saints
who love to do Jesus’ will.
You can meet them in school, on the street, in the store,
in church, by the sea, in the house next door,
they are saints of God whether rich or poor,
and I mean to be one too."

More now than ever, the world needs to know that St. Andrew's Episcopal Church is a place where every child of God, no matter who they are, may find sanctuary and community. Our congregation is located in a unique place to state who we are as followers of Jesus, the one has commanded us to bring good news to the poor, bind up the brokenhearted, and release from darkness to the prisoners bound.

This Sunday morning, The Social Justice Committee and the Children’s Youth and Family Ministries collaborated on an intergenerational project to fill the St. Andrew’s yard with signs showcasing important messages of social justice from scripture and the saints, as well as statements of solidarity with our siblings of marginalized communities. These are now on our yard parallel to Regent Street, where there is always a heavy flow of both auto and foot traffic, ESPECIALLY on Badger game days.

Thank you to all who participated in sharing the good news!

Music VBS at St Andrew's was an incredible experience for all involved.

Throughout the week, kids and adults deepened their faith through study of Scripture, the Book of Common Prayer, the Catechism, Music, and Liturgy.

Ukulele, recorders, bells and chimes were our instruments of proclaiming the Gospel this week.

Each of us was reminded of a simple truth: when we receive Baptism, when we receive Christ in the bread and wine, we are called to leave the doors of the church and become Christ to our neighbor. Each of these children was empowered to understand that they are, in fact, ministers of the church.

Thanks be to God for joyful praise, even in the midst of troubled times.

Music VBS has begun this week at St. Andrew's!!!

A wonderful crew of children and adults have gathered to learn more about how music, worship, and the Book of Common Prayer all set us up to become Christ to our neighbor as part of our witness as Episcopalians.

As of yesterday, June 8th, I have retired from full time parish ministry. This is my final sermon as the Rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

It has been a wonderful eighteen and a half years. The people of St. Andrew's will always have a place in my heart.
