In 2002, two college students and their youth pastor decided to take a group of students overseas for a weeklong mission trip. It was there, that these three individuals fell in love with the concept of short-term missions. They witnessed God transforming their students’ lives through exposure to what He was doing in the world around them. In 2007, Andy, Nick and Todd founded Next Step, with a goal to allow God to transform students’ lives while serving the world around them.

Ramirez Barrientos: I am excited to return for a second summer. It was a true blessing to share this experience with the other interns, who have genuinely become like family. We worked hard, but the relationships we built and the people we connected with made the experience meaningful. The Breaking Circles staff is amazing, and we shared so much together. The food was amazing too. Every group came with its own learning curve, and getting to know new people throughout the summer was awesome.

I was super excited to come back mostly because of the people I’ve met through next step. From my team and the NS staff to the church groups coming on our trips and the community members we meet along the way, I’ve had so much fun meeting new people and making friends.

🚨 returner spotlight! See why .aa is jointing Next Step again this summer!

I’m coming back from my second Next Step Summer, because I’m so grateful for the wonderful people I met who are hungry in their faith. Students who are so joyful gave me a reason to be joyful too. It was very cool learning about different cultures and insights through the church that hosted us and through my team itself.
Most importantly, I learned that God’s grace and love are the same for all creation. I’m looking forward to serving in Colorado next summer!!!

At New Promise Church, we’ve had the joy of partnering with Next Step for the past 12–14 years, and every single trip has been a reminder that God is still powerfully at work through students who are willing to say “yes.”

We’ve watched teens grow in confidence, compassion, leadership, and faith. We’ve seen walls painted, homes repaired, and — more importantly — hearts changed. And along the way, “Yay God!” has become part of our everyday vocabulary because we can’t help but celebrate what He is doing.

Last year was especially meaningful as we became the host church for the Cleveland, OH site. What an honor it was to watch our students serve not just in another city — but right in their own community.

Every year we head into a Next Step trip with excitement because we never know exactly how God is going to use our teens — we only know that He always does.

Thank you, Next Step Ministries, for investing in the next generation and for walking alongside churches like ours year after year. We are grateful for the partnership and excited for what God will continue to do!
