The new Crystal Beach Aquatic Center took a major step forward last night with city council support of the financing plan, which is a mix of bonds and grants. We have been very intentional about not increasing property tax rates or having to raise admission prices.

With support from Jefferson County and others, we will have a beautiful pool with capacity for about 900 swimmers at a time, a splash pad, diving boards, lazy river, space for aquatics, lap swimming, slides, and sun shelfs. This will be the most unique pool in the region!

I look forward to sharing more information with you about this multigenerational investment at our February 7th council meeting, which will be held in the newly restored event space at Crystal Beach.

We mourn the unexpected passing of Derek Peck, site manager at Lanier Mansion State Historic Site.

The site will be closed on Wednesday, June 16. We will resume regular hours on Thursday, June 17.

If you had the pleasure of interacting with Derek, you understand what an impact he had on the site, each of us and on the legacy of the Lanier Mansion.
