SAFELY SHARING: PRIVACY PRACTICES FOR LWML WOMEN
Protecting your privacy online is more important than ever, especially in zone or district newsletters that reach many people. Sharing stories and updates on activities helps strengthen connections, but it can also create unintended risks.
It is common to include an email address so others can contact someone about a program, event, or project. Many women use their personal email addresses because they check them regularly and can respond quickly. However, it is often safer to create a separate email address specifically for LWML business. Using a dedicated account helps protect your personal information and reduces the risk of unwanted messages reaching your personal inbox.
Some districts provide official email addresses for board and committee members that automatically forward messages to a personal account. This allows members to receive communications conveniently while still maintaining privacy. Check with your District President or Communications Committee to see whether this option is available in your district.
Many newsletters are created using programs such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs because these tools make it easy to write, edit, and update information. However, files created in these programs can also be easily changed by other users if they are shared directly. To protect the content, many organizations choose to save and distribute their newsletters as PDF files. PDF files are more secure because they are harder to edit without permission, helping prevent unauthorized changes or alterations to the newsletter.
As LWML women continue to share the joy of serving the Lord through newsletters and online communication, it is important to do so thoughtfully and safely. By practicing good online privacy habits, we can continue to connect, encourage, and serve others with confidence and care.
