The SAMies were at it again yesterday at Second Harvest Food Bank. They had a very “a-peeling” day as they packaged a bunch of bananas. Well, actually a lot of bunches.

We had a very special visitor yesterday. Marilyn Lawler stopped by to see SAM in action, and visit with SAMies and SHFB staff. This was a special day for everyone as we remembered her husband, Jerry Lawler. He passed in late April—just a few days after his volunteer shift at SHFB. Jerry loved to volunteer with SAM and help SHFB. He was a hard worker and sang the words to all the songs that we listened to as we worked.

After we enjoyed Marilyn’s recess treats, we gathered for a group picture with SHFB staff where Marilyn presented SHFB with a check in memory of her husband.

But Marilyn was not done. She totally surprised SAM with a check as well!!

She completed her visit with a tour of the SHFB facilities. It was a very special day to remember Jerry and his work at Second Harvest Food Bank.

Senior Adult Ministry (SAM) is involved in a new outreach ministry! We have two plots at the Pheasant Hill Community Gardens located on the grounds of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Monona, Wis. SAMies are growing lettuce, onions, green beans, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, summer squash, and cucumbers—big and small!

Our yields will go right across the parking lot to the St. Stephens Food Pantry. Enjoy the pics. If you want to help in the gardens, drop an email to [email protected]

Another Monday at Second Harvest Food Bank for SAM. Another Monday of working their buns off. Again. This time the team placed 2000 ingredient labels on bags and repackaged 4800 buns.

Check out the smiles on all of the SAMies as they help prepare outgoing food for some 300 pantries in 16 south central Wisconsin counties.

And they’re off! Six people left for Columbus on a motorcycle ride this beautiful Saturday morning. Led by Pastor Dan.😌 Ride on… Ride on… perhaps a metaphor for Pentecost😉

The SAMies were at it again yesterday. Gosh, did they work their buns off!

Literally.

Like 5,160 hamburger buns worth! We actually repackaged bulk hamburger buns into packs of four buns each. The buns came in large bread flat sleeves of about 30 buns per sleeve. That is too much for one family so we repackaged into packs of four buns each—just in time for Memorial Day cookouts!
