James Reeb Unitarian Universalist Congregation

James Reeb Unitarian Universalist Congregation Comprised of 100+ members, we are known for our "depth-of-heart," and for accepting and welcoming peo Sunday worship services begin at 10:00am.

Worship services reflect the Fourth Principle of the Unitarian Universalist Association, "a free and responsible search for truth and meaning," and respect the varied religious beliefs and experiences among congregants. Services usually include music, time for silent reflection, an opportunity for members to state their "joys and sorrows," and an affirmation of our commitment to exist as a communi

ty. Our services are led by our minister, a guest minister, a Worship Associate, or someone from within the congregation. The Worship Team welcomes ideas for services and helps members develop services from their ideas. Religious Education classes and childcare are available for children during the services except during Intergenerational Services, during which time the JRUUC Nursery is available for parents with very young children. A period of fellowship follows the service, sometimes with a meal or refreshment. Visitors are always welcome!

This Sunday - "The Spirituality of the Universe" with guest Peter Mayer. Peter Mayer will share songs and reflections about finding comfort, strength and inspiration in our connection to everything.

Minnesota’s Peter Mayer has been singing and songwriting full-time for over 20 years, performing in venues across the United States and beyond. He writes songs for a small planet–songs that celebrate life on earth and the mysterious and wondrous fact of our existence–songs about the vast cosmos that surrounds us and how we are a part of it all. He also writes songs about dress hats, pumpkins and pajamas, and even love and freight trains just like a good folk musician should. His music has been performed by artists like Kathy Mattea, David Wilcox, Claudia Schmidt, Anne Hills, Priscilla Herdman, Darryl Purpose, Billy Jonas, and Ronny Cox, to name a few. His work has been included in song books, church hymnals, and folk radio playlists across the country. Peter has eleven albums to his credit, and has sold over 100,000 of them. He lives in Stillwater, Minnesota with his wife and two daughters.

Please Note: Peter will also be at JRUUC to perform a concert on Saturday May 30 at 7:00 pm. You can get your Saturday night tickets at the link below.

Join Us This May Day

From the JRUUC Justice Leadership Team: May Day is coming up next Friday and it’s a big opportunity to show that we are willing and able to impose economic consequences in response to the current threats to our country. Here in Madison, it’s also called “Dia sin Inmigrantes,” or Day Without Immigrants, to honor the contributions of immigrant workers to Wisconsin’s economy. Madison is one of a handful of cities who have successfully organized to shut down an entire sector this year, in our case the public schools. We feel that May Day is very aligned with the justice interests of our congregation, so we wanted to let you know how you can participate.

Historically, May Day, in addition to being a pagan Spring festival, asks us to remember the union organizers who were fighting for an 8 hour work day. They faced many of the same tactics of government repression that we see today, such as violence, warrantless searches and seizures, suppression of journalism, and being targeted by police in retaliation for their activism. And, their willingness to get uncomfortable has led to material improvement in millions of people’s lives. When we celebrate May Day, we join that legacy and practice the skills of non-compliance that we will need to face the threats of today.

Organizers are asking for you to make these commitments:

No shopping.

No school.

No work.

Get in the streets if you can.

The main event is starting on Library Mall at 12, marching up State St. at 1, and rallying at the Capitol at 2. If you would like to connect with other Reebers, our goal is to hook up with FUS and the yellow Side With Love banner.

This Sunday: On Being and Becoming, with guest speaker Amie Heeter and Virginia Harrison. - Yoga as a sacred tradition brings us into a deeper connection with life; harmonizing our inner and outer worlds and expanding our sense of self and what gifts we have to offer. There is a part of us that is always changing, the “becoming” part of ourselves. The part of us that is subject to time and space, cause and effect. We can become habituated in our perception and actions, moving through life from a mostly unconscious automatic pilot mindset. There is also a part of us that is unchanging, the “being” part of ourselves. It is innately whole and sourced in unconditioned, pure consciousness. Anchored in belonging. Seeing things as they actually are. The interplay of these two aspects opens pathways of possibility, connection, and recognition that life is a gift worthy of our fullest expression. -
