We know how to show up. We’ve marched, organized, written letters, held vigils, maybe gotten arrested. And the work of nonviolence asks something harder than action: it asks us to stay fully human in the presence of people whose views we find threatening, misguided, or even dangerous.

In a country this polarized, few of us were raised with genuine skills of listening, empathy, and nonviolent response — and those gaps show up not just in the streets, but at family dinners, in neighborhood meetings, and in our own inner lives. These skills matter no matter who holds power.

This workshop invites peace activists to move beyond what we know intellectually about nonviolence and begin to embody it — through reflection, shared practice, and challenging role-plays that put our principles to the test in real human encounters.

Please join me. Come ready to practice. Come as you are.

Short Film 29 minute movie on nuclear weapons which features Daniel Elssberg.
Please join Kevin Martin, with Peace Action Education Fund,Thursday, June 4, at 8 p.m. Eastern time for the online premiere of the short film on the current nuclear threat, An Ordinary Insanity, by Oscar-nominated director Judith Ehrlich. This 29-minute film features Daniel speaking about the urgent planetary threat posed by nuclear weapons in general and ICBMs in particular. Ellsberg also encourages action to dramatically reduce that threat and draws upon his history as a nuclear war planner and, later, as a peace activist, arrested over 80 times for civil disobedience actions.

Judith filmed Ellsberg just one year before he died in June 2023. Despite his advanced age of 91 at the time of filming, he’s clear and articulate, speaking directly and passionately into the camera. Daniel notes at the beginning of the film, “I’ve long said that to my last breath I will be doing what I can to postpone and avert the risk of nuclear war.”

Peace Action Education Fund is a cosponsor of the showing, and I will be one of several activists offering brief remarks after the film. The showing is free, but you need to register here: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/1517782737045/WN_jX-74q1nTcaqFOyW8_iDkw?emci=0b046265-765c-f111-8fcb-000d3a18905c&emdi=aee075e7-e65c-f111-8fcb-000d3a18905c&ceid=104443 #/registration

Maria Stephan on Nonviolence, Political Violence, and the Fight for Democracy
The Jim Wallis Podcast

“On this episode, Jim Wallis speaks with Maria J. Stephan of the Horizons Project about the effectiveness of nonviolence in confronting political violence, repression, and authoritarianism. Horizons Project and partners have developed an entire training curriculum focused on political violence and how to make political violence and repression backfire. You can go to the Harnessing Our Power to Make Political Violence and Repression Backfire (HOPE) website to learn more and to request trainings…Stephan makes a sustained case that nonviolence is not only more ethical and religiously grounded, but also more effective than violence in building durable change, shifting power, and making repression backfire.”

Please take a moment to use this action tool to contact your elected officials and demand his immediate release.
While his family and community continue fighting tirelessly for him, Salah, like many other detainees, is reportedly being held in deeply disturbing conditions: unsanitary bathrooms, inadequate food, freezing room temperatures, very little clothing, and ongoing medical neglect, including failures to properly monitor his sugar levels. Nobody should be treated this way.
We cannot allow Salah to be isolated or forgotten behind detention center walls. Public pressure matters. Community pressure matters. Salah and his family deserve to know that people across the country are continuing to speak his name loudly and refuse to look away.

Take action, share the link with your friends and family, and let’s Free Salah Sarsour.

05/25/2026

The Memorial Mile is set up each year and sponsored by Veterans of Peace to reflect on the loss of life by US troops since September 11, 2001. It is set up for one week around Memorial Day by Clarence Kailin Chapter 25 of Veterans for Peace Madison members and friends.
Visit the mile at Olbrich Park on Atwood Ave in Madison, WI. Please visit their website below for details.

"We are working to have people better realize the sacrifices by troops and families and communities and to stop the racket of war profiteering.

These United States need to use our military in self defense, to protect our homes and families and our constitution, not the profits of the wealthiest insiders.

Our first local Madison Memorial Mile was put up in 2007."

Veterans for Peace also has an event on Monday:

https://madisonvfp.org/2026-memorial-day-peace-rally/

The purpose of Veterans for Peace:
"We work...
* To increase public awareness of the causes and costs of war
* To restrain our governments from intervening, overtly and covertly, in the internal affairs of other nations
* To resist racism and repression in our home communities
* To oppose the militarization of law enforcement
* To end the arms race and to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons
* To seek justice for veterans and victims of war
* To abolish war as an instrument of national policy
* To promote a sustainable and peaceful world

To achieve these goals, members of Veterans For Peace pledge to use non-violent means and to maintain an organization that is both democratic and open with the understanding that all members are trusted to act in the best interests of the group for the larger purpose of world peace."
