Thought for today…
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25)
It’s just a fact of life: it is easy to drift. When life gets heavy, or we’re just plain worn out, our first instinct is usually to pull back into our own shell. We start thinking we can handle our struggles all by our lonesome, or that skipping church or small group "just this once" won't hurt anything.
But the writer of Hebrews sounds a gentle warning against letting isolation become a habit. Notice he doesn't paint gathering together as some heavy chore or a rule you check off a list just to say you did it.
No, sir, he frames community as a literal lifeline.The Christian life was never meant to be a solo act. Think about a campfire: you pull one single coal away from the pile, and it don't take long for that coal to go cold and turn to ash. That is exactly what happens to our hearts when we disconnect from the body of Christ.
But when we get together, our spirits warm right back up. We hear the truth, we help carry each other's heavy loads, and we get our eyes put back on Jesus.
The Bible also gives us a timeline here: "and all the more as you see the Day approaching." As this old world gets crazier, darker, and more hostile to faith, our need for each other just multiplies. We need the anchor of a church family to keep us from drifting downstream.
So today, make up your mind to be in church this Sunday. Show up and let your smile and your words be an encouragement to someone who might be fighting a quiet battle.
