Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ, in His earthly life, shared our toil and hallowed our labor, and who has so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, the lives of others: Be present with your people wherever they work. Guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for ourselves alone, but for the common good. Make those who carry on the industries and commerce of this land responsive to Thy will, and give to us all a pride in what we do and a just return for our labor.
We pray for all those who work diligently to support themselves and their families. Give them strength to complete each day and rest when they are weary. Help us to be mindful of the rightful aspirations and needs of other workers, and make us generous in our concern for those who struggle to find work or who have lost their jobs because of difficulties and economic hardships. Guide all who seek employment, open doors of opportunity for them, and sustain those who face unemployment with hope, patience, and the care of their neighbors.
Teach us to recognize that our daily work is a gift through which we serve our neighbor and contribute to the good of our community. Grant that our labor may be honest, our dealings just, and our hearts grateful for all that you provide. Through our work, use us to bless others and to reflect the love of Christ, who came not to be served but to serve. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
