We went to Service a week ago at Mt. Zion, and it was wonderful to see the nice new paved parking lot finally done. Also, Pastor Hargove did a really nice spiritual sermon, we always love to visit Mt. Zion and the church family at our ancestry church.

Here are some wonderful vintage photos given to us by Grant Harper Reid who is the Grandson of Fannie Pennington, who was a very well known ancestry person to the church and area of Warren County and Halifax County. Although Fannie moved to NYC and was a well known and highly recognized member to the also famous Abyssinian Baptist Church in NYC, and she was well known and loved by some very well known celebrities in her day as well, and her Grandson Grant Harper Reid also had accomplished having a street near the church in NYC named after her, which is an honor in her loving memory. I personally met cousin Fannie Pennington some years back at a Harris family reunion, and she was one spectacular lady indeed. She now Rest in Peace with Jesus. However it is an honor to post her photos from when she was in Macon, NC and at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where also she has family in the Church Grave Yard that you will see there if you ever visit. Thanks so much cousin Grant for sharing these photos for the Page. Fannie Pennington is in the purple print dress. She is also there with the Pastor of the time at the Mt. Zion Church. Also, the famous church, Abyssinian Baptist Church in NYC showed a letter that she was recognized by Mt. Zion Baptist Church. It is always a Blessing to see vintage photos that are a part of the history of the Church of Mt. Zion Baptist.

For out of town people who come from very far away to visit and you need lodging options, consider a rental on Lake Gaston, which is not very far from Macon, NC, it is a 15 minute drive, but you still need a car to get from Lake Gaston to Macon. Another option if you need to fly is to travel into the Raleigh-Durham, NC International Airport, get a rental car, and there are plenty of Hotels to choose on in the Raleigh-Durham area near the Airport, and the drive from Raleigh-Durham to Mount Zion Baptist Church in Macon, NC is 1 hour and 13 minutes. Anyway, here is a link to the lovely rentals in Lake Gaston, NC.

Reminder that the Church is always open for Service every 2nd and 4th Sunday, at 11:00 am, of each month of the year, and the public is always welcome to visit for Service and Worship. This is truly a historical church and has been in function since the late 1800's, and is on the grounds of ancestry burials since those early years. The current Pastor is Reverend Malvin Hargrove, and his preaching sermon certainly will help to lift your spirits.
