Shalom Macon is Messianic Jewish teaching about Jesus, the Bible, Israel, and the

coming Kingdom of God. It is a community of disciples, both Jews and Christians, who want to move past shallow teaching about the Bible and learn exciting and real ways to live it out in faith and practice. He lived and taught from the Jewish scriptures with a Jewish perspective, and we can learn a lot more about his words and their application for our lives when we see and hear them through Jewish eyes.

What Atonement REALLY Means in the Bible (And Why It Changes Everything for You)

In Part 5 of Atonement Explained, we ask what “atonement” actually means in Scripture. Most people hear the word and think forgiveness, substitution, or Jesus dying in their place. But in the Torah, atonement language works very differently.

This message explores kipper, ritual and moral impurity, the contamination of sacred space, and why blood functions as a purifier of the sanctuary rather than a symbol of divine violence.

This is a crucial foundation for understanding sacrifice, Yom Kippur, and eventually Yeshua with greater clarity.

Join us LIVE every Saturday at 9 am EST for our traditional Shacharit prayer service, and again at 11 am EST for music and teachings!

Part 3 of the series discussed what the Passover lamb was not: not a sin offering, not penal substitution, and not a payment for punishment.

Now we ask the bigger question: what was sacrifice actually for?

In this message, we step back into the Torah’s world and discover that sacrifice is far more relational, sacred, and surprising than many of us were taught.

It is not simply about death. It is about drawing near, sharing covenant, restoring access, and understanding atonement on the Bible’s own terms.

Series Overview

Atonement Explained is a biblical teaching series designed to help viewers rethink what sacrifice and atonement really mean. With careful attention to Leviticus, the sacrificial system, Passover, grace, and the role of Yeshua, the series explores whether popular Christian ideas about penal substitution fully reflect the story and logic of Scripture.
