Become
Philippians 2:12-13
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed . . . continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act to fulfill his good purpose.

You have work to do!

Spiritual growth requires your part. It takes work, effort, and intention. But it’s never self-salvation. God has given us everything we need to walk with him. He paid the price for you. He alone has the plan for you. He gives you grace to accomplish it. Your part is choosing. We choose to “work it out” as God is “working it in.” (And he will help with that too—ask him to help you choose!)

This keeps us from two ditches. One ditch is striving as if it all depends on you; the other is coasting as if grace means you don’t need to engage. God’s grace is not permission to drift—it’s power to change. When Paul tells us to work, he says to do it with fear and trembling. Not in a scary way, a careful way. Am I working on my spiritual life casually or carefully? He’s given you everything you need to become like him. Your part is responding with reverence, intention, and steady practice.

Today, treat your spiritual life carefully: show up, pay attention, and take small steps that agree with what God is doing in you.

Be honest, have you been using grace as permission to coast? What habit or attitude reveals that?

What does “work it out” look like for you this week in one specific area (speech, purity, generosity, patience,
other)?

Remind yourself today that God is already at work in you and use one practice that helps feed you spiritually
(Bible reading, prayer, worship, serving, other)?
·
Write a short prayer asking God to align your desires with His, then choose one action that “works” on that prayer.

Trusting in His plan and leaning on His grace,

Pastor David
