WOW, well stated by Bishop Talbert Swan!

My condolences to Senator Lindsey Graham’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. Death is a reminder of our shared humanity, and compassion for those who grieve should never be conditional.

But condolences are not the same thing as rewriting history.

Lindsey Graham’s political legacy deserves to be remembered honestly. He once warned America that Donald Trump was a “race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot” and said choosing him as the Republican nominee would “destroy” the GOP and that Republicans would “deserve it.” Yet he ultimately became one of Trump’s most loyal defenders, standing by him through repeated attacks on democratic institutions, racial division, and even after Trump’s public insults toward his friend, Senator John McCain.

History should remember people as they were—not as we wish they had been. We can extend sympathy to a grieving family while also acknowledging that Lindsey Graham’s public record was marked by political expediency, inconsistency, and unwavering support for a MAGA movement that deepened division in this country. Death does not erase accountability, and it should not require us to sanitize a public legacy.

Hades just got a little more crowded and white supremacy just lost another loyal soldier.
