For the next six weeks, we are asking that you distribute Winter Blessing Bags when you are out and about.

Helpful hints for what to include in Blessing Bags and how to pack a Blessing Bag:

Place a blanket in one ziplock bag and then in a second ziplock bag place socks, scarves, and gloves. The reason for the two separate bags is simple, they can use these bags to keep their items dry in case of rain.

Another helpful hint is to make sure that you purchase canned items and make sure that have pop tops on them. Many homeless people do not have can openers. They also can cook canned items over a fire.

Tarps and ropes are great additions. These items can be used to shield wind and create makeshift roofs that the homeless can shelter under.

Expandable bowls as well as to go silverware. They are compact and easily packed.

Adopting a block:
Did you know that you can adopt a block? Find an area that you feel that you can help and pick a day to deliver Blessing Bags! I am not encouraging you to enter homeless encampments on your own. Please do not enter these camps unless you are with a group.

For example, on Tuesdays I go into Macon near Presidential Parkway. I have pre-made Blessing Bags and I usually hand them out to any homeless I encounter.

I am also asking you to send us a selfie with your Blessing Bags telling us what block you are adopting. Please include what day you will be passing them out, as well.

Lord, we ask for provisions to meet their physical needs. May they have access to nourishing food, clean water, warm clothing, and safe shelter. In times of illness, provide them with medical care and healing. We also pray for their emotional and spiritual needs. AMEN
