Join us for worship on Sunday, September 6 as we begin our 5 week series of Season of Creation-Immersion in Living Water. Scripture is John 7:37–38 — Living Water and the Festival of Tabernacles. Worship is at 10:00 am and on Facebook Live.
This passage from John is included in a broader pericope that focuses on Jesus and the Jewish festivals, which begins at 5:1 and extends through 10:42. It is part of a larger discussion of Jesus and the Festival of Tabernacles that begins at 7:1 and ends at 8:59,
including a hostile dialogue between Jesus and the Jerusalem authorities, set in the Temple, that focuses on Moses, the law, and the identity of Jesus as Messiah. In the midst of that debate, Jesus reveals himself as the giver of living water, inviting people to
come and drink. Water is linked to the Festival of Tabernacles through one of its major rituals — the pouring of water from the Pool of Siloam on the altar — a reference that resonates with Zechariah 14:8 and the promise of the Spirit through the gift of water flowing from the Temple in the last days. http://cciwdisciples.org/soc

During the next five Sundays of worship, we will journey through celebration, confession, and renewal. The journey begins by entering into the water, centering the Creator's majestic work through awe and wonder. This will lead us to putting our heads
below the water, as we trust in the movement of the Holy Spirit as our guide. Under the surface we will open our eyes to the ways in which our relationship with Creation has been continuously marred by sin. It is only then that we will emerge from the living
waters, equipped with the knowledge that we are a part of the living waters of Creation and transformed for the work God calls us to undertake in solidarity and community. http://cciwdisciples.org/soc

At Bible study last night, we asked this question:
"Jesus stands in the Temple and offers living water. How does this reframe our understanding of God’s presence as something that flows outward into all of life, rather than something confined only to sacred spaces?"

Whew, that’ll preach! Over the coming weeks, we’ll explore what it means to recognize God not only within the walls of the church, but flowing through and sustaining all of creation.
